I was hesitant to start a new topic just for a negative viewpoint, but seeing as how Joe Allen's is so widely known... Joe Allen's is what it needs to be - they have a bar, they serve food, they have a good location, and they are 'famous' among New York theatre-goers. I've eaten here a number of times over the years, largely due to my wife's sense of nostalgia. Becco was pretty good (not amazing, but solid) the last time I was there (which was several years ago). It is mobbed pre-theater, and then pretty empty while everyone is at their shows.
I like Trattoria Trecolori.
