Did anyone read the article on changing the centuries old rules for making scotch in the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday? They are trying to spin it as a good thing but what do you think? Hey All, My volunteer group- the Junior Friends of the Campagna Center, puts on the Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend every year to benefit the Campagna Center, a local non-profit in Alexandria. This year the Taste of Scotland is on Friday, Nov 30 at The Atrium Building (where Society Fair is), and the Greenery sales (at The Campagna Center), amazing Grand Feature Parade (downtown Alexandria), and Home Tours (around Old Town Alexandria) will be Saturday, December 1. I didn't see a thread during my search on the Round Robin inside the Willard Intercontinental, which in my opinion needed a thread, if nothing else, but for the excellent bartenders. They are always friendly in that appropriately sarcastic bartender way. I always like hanging out there because they take good care of you. And they make some tasty drinks. Some a little pricey, but tasty. I like their special gin fizz, mint julep and other cocktails. As a note they do have a TV, which sometimes it is hard to find a good bar with a TV. But it was nice to be able to catch a little football sipping

Prince of Petworth sleuthed out this sign a couple months ago, wondering what was to become of it. Yesterday, I ran into Bill Thomas (the owner of Bourbon) at Bourbon, and he informed me that Jack Rose will be opening up next Spring at 2007 18th St. NW (May 1st is currently the target date). This is around the intersection with Florida Ave., and is the former home of Third Power Fitness. This a large space, 6,300 square feet, and the restaurant will feature, needless to say, plenty to drink, with a strong focus on Scotch. On December 6 - 7, 2013, The Campagna Center will hold the 43rd Annual Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend and Parade, in partnership with The Saint Andrew's Society of Washington, D.C. and the City of Alexandria. A tradition that honors Alexandria's rich Scottish heritage with a variety of activities to ring in the holiday season, the Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend generates much-needed financial support for our programs. The event is consistently ranked by the Southeast Tourism Society as one of the top 20 events in the South and regularly draws nearly 30,000 attendees. Activities include:
