Dear Friends,

I am collecting recipes for a labor of love—a fundraising cookbook for the local non-profit Center for Multicultural Human Services (CMHS).

CMHS’s mission is to help people from ethnically diverse backgrounds succeed by providing comprehensive, culturally sensitive mental health and related services, and by conducting research and training to make such services more widely available. Rekindling hope and rebuilding live, the Centre is staffed by multi-ethnic, multilingual social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, education specialists, art therapists, and graduate interns from local universities. Families are from --- Turkey, Somalia, Bosnia, India, Russia, Vietnam, Spain, Cambodia, Japan, Portugal, China, Korea, Germany to name just a few. Services offered include -- Program for Survivors of Torture and Severe Trauma (PSTT), multicultural mental health treatment and evaluation services, aid to victims of domestic violence, housing, cross cultural training, children’s education, and much more.

Since its inception in the early 80s CMHS has developed a wide range of services in 30 languages and now serves more than 6,000 individuals and families annually throughout the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. CMHS's holistic, comprehensive model of services responds to the needs of today's culturally diverse immigrants and refugees, most of who arrive in the US from war-torn, impoverished countries.

The fundraising cookbook will be a collection of fun and easy family-friendly recipes appealing to children of varied backgrounds. Its purpose will be to help the Centre raise money to further its mission in helping these families and kids.

I am donating my time and effort to this good cause and I would like to invite you to contribute a recipe or two. Although there will be no fee provided for recipes, you will receive the good will and blessings from all the families the center helps. We will also publish your name with your recipe(s).

Please contact me for contribution guidelines and details. The deadline for this project is Nov 15th 2005.

Thanks very much for allowing me the liberty to post this here and I look forward to your contribution.

Send 'em in, folks. I'm planning on contributing my cornbread recipe from the picnic. (Although I may rewrite it to take out the habaneros. We're talking junior palates here!) And probably another one. Seriously, think of that dish you make most often that you think folks could cook as a family and contribute it!
