Urban Agricultural Panel

Tue, January 26, 6:30pm – 8:00pm

National Building Museum

Given that the average grocery store vegetable travels 1500 miles to reach our plate, city leaders and community activists are investigating how we can increase farming inside our city limits. Find out how we can create oases where there were once food deserts. This is a panel discussion with Josh Viertel, President, Slow Food and Liz Falk, Director and co-Founder, Washington DC based Common Good City Farm, among others.

Arlington has a fairly well developed Community Garden Program. One of the more visible gardens line Four Mile Run Drive. There are a surprising number of plots and all appear well utilized during the growing season.

Between what we receive in our weekly CSA delivery from a local farm, and what we grow in our backyard, we buy hardly any supermarket vegetables between June and October.
