Waitman
Circumstances demand a decent meal for 8 or so St. Paddy's. No drunken amateur night BS, actual real good food. And close to Dupont. Vidalia is, alas, booked. that last two meals at the Tabard have been mediocre. At best. New Heights? I don't get out much these days and am too habit-formed to think of anything new on short notice without help.
GennaroE
Birch & Barley is a worthwhile option. I'd suggest Againn as well since it's not all that far, but I imagine the bar scene will be rather hectic, and it may bleed over into the rest of the place. Need to get to Birch & Barley but definitely looking for something a little more, I don't know, quiet and elegant. Nothing against loud and rowdy, but that's not this event. Again, Vidalia was the first choice, so something that's withing a couple of standard deviations of that establishment.

squidsdc
Quiet, elegant, great food...the back room at Palena, if you can get it. If not, New Heights is nice, but I wouldn't call it quiet.

Ericandblueboy
close to Dupont For something a little different but really good (on par with Vidalia) - Eola. Other thoughts - Sushi Taro. I haven't been to Westend Bistro in years but it might be some place to try again.

Keithstg
Hmm...maybe Plume then? I strongly second plume. I'm late in posting about it, but have had a couple killer meals there recently - and it certainly meets the quiet and elegant criteria.
Waitman
And the winner is...Eola! I did not make the final call but rather forwarded suggestions to a former colleague who made the final decision based on...I have no idea. Thanks, all.
