The Hersch
Liederkranz, an American cheese similar to Limburger only better, has been defunct since 1985. I used to love it and have mourned its loss for a quarter of a century. Now it makes a triumphant return, produced by the DCI Cheese Company. In Washington, you can find it at Calvert Woodley, where I discovered it this past Saturday, much to my delighted surprise. It's hard to say if it's the same as of old, as obviously one can't compare the new and the old side by side, and memories of cheese that are decades old can't really be trusted. But I can tell you, this cheese is very good.
