JMac
Mark your calendars, on October 13, 2010 Bistro Francais is having a wine dinner featuring the wines of Georges Vernay. The dinner is sponsored by the Vineyard in McLean. Georges Vernay founded his domaine with just under four acres in Condrieu. In the late 1940s he recognized the danger that the appellation was in, with under 20 acres remaining under vine in the appellation there was a serious risk of the appelation disappearing. Due to his efforts to replant and promote the beautiful wines of the Condrieu, Georges Vernay became known as the "savior of Condrieu." His daughter, Christine, assumed winemaking responsibilities in 1997. After a few years honing her craft, she began to fashion some of the most distinctive wines coming from the Northern Rhone, showing a deft touch with both reds and whites. The menu: Aperitif: Gougeres mini lump crab cakes 2009 Vin de Pays des Collines Rodhaniennes Viognier "Le Pied de Samson" First course: Seared coquilles Saint-Jacques, saffron risotto 2008 Condrieu "Les Terrasses de l'Empire" Second course: Roasted Squab, shallots and red wine braised cabbages 2008 Cotes du Rhone red "Sainte'Agathe" Third course: Veal loin, truffles juice, roasted potatoes with French green beans 2007 Saint-Joseph Rouge "La Dame Brune" Fourth course: assorted cheese 2007 Cote-Rotie "La Blonde du Seigneur" $80 per person.
