If Silver Spring includes Wheaton, I *adore* Los Chorros, on Blueridge, just NE of Georgia & University. Great Salvadorean, and decent Tex-Mex.

Family friendly Salvadoran = Samantha's

El Golfo on Flower Avenue in Silver Spring. Very family-friendly, and the owners are very involved in the local community.

A second to both tfbrennan's suggestion (love Samantha's papusas) and heather's suggestion (especially the non-mex dishes and the seafood at el Golfo. (They also own the fish shop in the same building whose entrance is off the parking lot)).

The only positive to mi Rancho is the huge covered outdoor patio.

I think the food is better than some people give it credit for, but I've also been going there for a long time with my family, so my feelings are more than slightly skewed.
