Pool Boy
One thing I'd like to try to do this year is to explore the DC-metro area wine bars, or places where wine is showcased. It doesn't have to necessarily be the best food, the best wine, the best service, the best vibe. I'm fine with DC proper, and suburban MD of course. Baltimore even as well as NoVa (but NoVa would be lowest on my list since the getting there factor makes it all just take longer to get to/from). So, suggestions folks? TIA! Choirgirl21
In my part of suburban MD, there's Pure Wine in Ellicott City and Iron Bridge & Aida in Columbia. Iron Bridge also has a Warrenton, VA location, but I've never been. Baltimore has the Wine Market in Locust Point, 13.5% in Hampden, and V-No in Fells Point. I believe Chesapeake Wine Co. also has a wine bar portion to it (it's a wine store). There's also a place in the Inner Harbor, Fleming's I think that is an expensive restaurant but does a wine bar sort of thing. Not sure if you want to include restaurants that have wine bar type menus. If so, Cinghiale would be very high on my list - large list of Italians, both full and half pours. Those are what I can think of off the top of my head. Wasn't really going to do DC as I know there are DC folks who can provide a more extensive list, but off the top of my head there is Cork and Proof. Not sure if Enoteca is still around, I wasn't a huge fan. There's also that relatively new place near the 9:30 club that does all organic/sustainable wines, but the name is totally slipping my mind. ETA: If you ever need company last minute for a visit to one of the ones in my area, let me know. I'm always happy to do a wine bar visit.

DC Deb
There is Screwtop in Arlington, and Grapeseed in Bethesda. I second Screwtop in Arlington. It's walking distance from Clarendon Metro. They have a great selection of cheese and charcuterie too.
Pool Boy
I am interested in putting together a list of all of the area wine bars, and also getting thoughts on which ones to try first. I am willing to try them in DC, MD and yes even VA if I have to. Even Baltimore and the more northerly burbs of MD. I am craving to find the experience I had at Cavour 313 in Roma, Italia. I know I won't find it exactly, and I know it won't be a place I can walk to from my home or work, but I think it'd be fun just to see what the DC-Balto metro region has to offer in the form of wine bars. Ideally looking for simple, casual food, generally small plates, and a good wine program to explore. So...please help! thanks!
fjnunn
Arlington also has Tallula. There are restaurant and bar sections, both of which serve wine by the glass or half glass. Of course, there is a greater selection of bottles that you can buy as well. Mike
