You could tell that place was going to be a failure from reading the weekly updates in the Post Magazine on Frank. He was just to irresponsible to make a go at a venture like that.

If his jiggy bag once indicated a minor case of paranoia, it now suggests a Boy Scout-like prescience.

This is the same guy who had his one pair of shoes stolen from outside of his door. Some Boy Scout.

say what you want about the man, the Red Bean was one of the new best restaurants in this town when it was open.

I met Frank at the Raven about a month before the Red Bean opened. He was a great character with hilarious stories about Castroville, Bono, New Orleans and the drama of opening a restaurant. Nice guy and fun to talk to, but it was pretty clear that he wasn't cut out for the business side of running a restaurant.

You gotta root for a guy that installs a drill press in his kitchen.
