Wines to Enhance Romance

I am writing an article about which wines wine lovers use to enhance romance for an upcoming column for Valentine's Day.

I thought it would be great to collect a few stories (anonymous of course) on the wines that men and women rely on to, um, tip the odds of romance in their favor (if you catch my drift).

For example, when I open a bottle of 2002 Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red, my wife knows that my intentions are purely un-gentlemanly. But after one glass, her intentions become un-gentlemanly as well!

Share your "liquid love potion." If I use it in the article, I'll shoot you an email.

Cheers,

Scott

TMI, Scott! Waaaaaay TMI ...

The single worst wine review I ever read, which I ridiculed in "Chateau Viagra,", read simply, "It didn't make my wife and I want to f---, so we won't buy it again."

Such brevity, and yet, way too much information.

And no, for the record, Scott didn't write that.

For my wife it is a good CA Pinot Noir. Something about the lush fruit and lack of "alcoholiness" that she likes. That's why the largest variatal holding in my cellar is Pinot Noir, thank you Brian Loring and Adam Lee.

Hmm, I find Adam's California-based pinot bottlings to be plenty alcoholic.

As for Mr. Loring, he's got that slightly-syrupy-but-not-mouth-coating style down just right, and he himself is such a mensch, I can't help but drink some of his stuff from time to time.

I think Adam's PNs calm down with some age, so I don't open them young. Not that they aren't high in alcohol, but they don't have the in your face alcohol that most Zins do.

Dave, You've got to admit it - based on that review, I don't think anyone would buy that wine!

Cheers,

Scott

Thanks to all who emailed me your favorite, uh hem, wines used to enhance your chance for romance.

Here is the article, as it appeared in the Examiner last Wednesday. Check it out and see if anything floats your boat. You still have a little time to grab a bottle before Valentine's Day.

He lists the 2003 WesMar PN, but doesn't say which one. I've tried them all, like them all, but the Piner Ranch Vineyard is yummy. In fact I have several of each left, guess I should open one tomorrow night.

Glad you like the WesMar wines. The Pinot in the article was not one of the single vineyard wines (that they do oh so well), but the "generic" Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley. Not quite as forward as the Piner Ranch, but a great value at $30.

Hope you had a great Valentine's Day and that your wine selection had the desired effect.

As it turned out, it was a little discombobulated. The wife was planning to go to here pottery workshop, so we didn't plan anything. It turned out she had to work late, so she didn't go to pottery. We ended up ordering take out Jamacian food and opening a Dain Amber Rose PN to go with it. Not the best match, but a great wine.

As to the WesMar, since I signed up for their list before they sold their first wine, my allocation is crazy. I'm allocated one case of each wine and two cases of the Russian River Valley and one other (can't remember whcih of the top of my head). Of course, I'm not buying that much from one allocation, but it is nice to know that I can. I tend to buy three bottles of each instead.

You, my friend, are a lucky, lucky guy. Great allocation and a spouse who can make her own stemware! It just doesn't get any better...

Cheers,

Scott

I just got the miler for WesMar's most recent offering, again a case of each except the Chard. Only 6 of those. I think I'll order some, but not all. No Piner Ranch or Oehlman Vineyard this time, but they do have a new Hellenthal Vineyard and a Balletto Vineyard.
