FDA Investigating Salmonella Contamination of Imported Spices

Maybe there isn't a large problem in India itself because the spices are typically roasted in a pan or fried in oil.  Ack.  My pepper mill.  If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go cook some peppercorns...

Edited to add, lest people think me paranoid, I am currently friends or family with people on chemo and one who is pregnant.  Spices are now going to be cooked before anyone gets fed.

If it makes you feel any better, it's apparently a longstanding problem but one that is difficult to diagnose and trace back to spices.
