I have a 12 hour layover at Incheon next week and want to get out into Seoul and eat some tasty Korean food. Any ideas?

I'd also be interested in food markets and street food. Anything but sitting around the airport all day.

Thanks!

Please visit the following website: airport transportation

You can see how to get to Seoul City. Since you are the first time visitor I will give you 2 options.

1. Please find Hannam-dong (Itaeweon) in the route name of the page - bus number 5A or 11B and click the detail button)

I recommend that you visit Itaewon Area because U.S. Military post is there so people around there speak English. Get off at the Hamilton Hotel stop. It is in the middle of Itaeweon area. I think that there is no street food there. I would say it is more for shopping.

2. Please find Myeong-dong in the route name of the page - bus number 5B or 12A and click the detail button). If you want to eat and buy some souvenirs, get off at the Namdaemun stop because the Namdaemun Market is the biggest market in the city, a lot of street food vendors are in the market and good department stores and shops are around. You can ask for discounts (bargain) for price at the market. Exchange rate is now 1($): 930(won).

You must be careful because of the pickpockets. If you need help ask a young person because they learn English in school. The area is very crowded and people don't say "excuse me" if they bump into you on the street. If you need more information please let me know. I can write down some Korean language for you so you can print out and show them.

Good Luck! Enjoy Korea.

Grover--thanks for taking the time to answer my question! Unfortunately I was too jet lagged to do anything but pass out in the transit hotel for a few hours and eat bad airport bi bim bap while watching Korea lose in the world cup.

I've printed out your advice though, and next time I have an interminable delay in Incheon I am definitely going to get out of the airport. Thanks again!

Heading to Seoul next week - mostly scheduled meetings and dinners, but looking for dinner options/recommendations in case we can get away from the crowd any evening.

Does anyone have recommendations for restaurants in Seoul? I may be heading there for a few days later this week. We'll be staying in the business area south of the river, but hope to get around a bit in our short time available.

I don't have a specific spot to recommend, but last November a group of 3 of us did the night food tour by O'ngo. It was a fun, casual way of seeing some of the city and trying a few different places, including a local tofu spot we never would have found otherwise, korean bbq, and a night market. It sounds like the groups are bigger on weekends, but we went on a Sunday night and there were only two others in the group. Drinks are included. I'd recommend it if you have a few hours one night.

Thanks for the suggestion! Reading the tripadvisor mentions of Daniel, I realized this is the same guy whom a friend of my sisters recommended for a food tour. His photo looked familiar and I realized I saw him the other night on Kimchi Chronicles (which WHUT is reairing). I emailed him and it looks like we might be able to make this work. Now if only I knew when we were leaving.

My brother is visiting Seoul with his Korean in-laws...basically there's like 10 of them going back to visit the Korean-based family. Him and his brothers-in-law have put together this Google Map eating tour, highlighting all of the places they are planning to hit. Should serve us well!

I will try to get his reviews and best ofs when he gets back.
