Both very good and I enjoyed seeing how they were cooked and served. Skin anyone?? Scott Johnston had better give his mustard based bbq sauce, 'cause dayum!. 'Sall I'm sayin'. Thank you everyone who planned, volunteered, donated, transported, shopped etc. to make this picnic happen. Really, it was a great picnic, and won't be my last tho' it was my first. It's been a while since I've made banana pudding with using pudding mix from a box, but I figure by making both at least one or the other will turn out decently :-) Just noticed a typo I made, it should have said "It's been a while since I've made banana pudding with OUT using pudding mix". Just so's ya know-- I was only one of a number of people responsible for organizing this excellent event-- crackers was the big Oinc, don't forget. Porcupine organized the chili tasting, and goldenticket, cucas87, Jacques Gastreaux, mdt, Jparrott, RaisaB, NotQuickDraw and AGM, crescentfresh et al involved in the pig roast smackdown all contributed in major ways. Hillvalley advised and inspired. And of course, it would never have been the fun event it was without all the cooks, bakers, shoppers, connoisseurs and schnorrers who showed up to share, eat, drink and mingle. First a huge thank you to our picnic team who did such great work: cucas87 for the Q&As, Goldenticket for those nice food labels and all the carpool help, Zoramargolis for keeping track of who was coming, what they were bringing and what was still needed, and Porcupine for coming up with the idea, and then organizing all of us chili-makers and setting up all the chili-serving paraphernalia, and being there to serve too (with Mr. Porcupine). Everybody who came early to help set up and do the heavy lifting (with a special shout out to LydiaR who brought special goodies from ShoeBoxOven just for the early-birds), and those who stayed late to drink the last of the booze help clean up: Thank YOU!!! And the pig teams! Wow! Chefs Stachowski for ordering and taking delivery, and both he and Chef Wabeck for their secret potions and rubs; and the team members, Agm, Crescentfresh, Treznor, Fermenteverything, Jacques Gastreaux and mdt. Also thanks to RaisaB and her hubby for lending the caja china to team JG for the afternoon. And to the weather gods for once again being so kind. Thank you to Don for sending his good will ambassador in his stead. [He’s cuter than you Don, and those freckles? Oh my goodness.] And to all of you who brought so much awesome food, drink, supplies and games to share–(according to the sign-in sheet, about 125 of us) thank all of you for coming out. We were there two hours late and much had been demolished or inhaled before we got there, but just in time for the pig(s). Both excellent, both too tasty to say which was better. Much work and it really paid off! But, as always, my favorite was the Martian Pig Slop from Hell. P.S. Rocks, Jr. is a very cute kid, with excellent manners, a real gentleman. Everything we tried was delicious. But it would be a shame not to point out a few outstanding items: Ferment Everything's homemade mustard and gouda. I need a bottle of that mustard to bring with me everytime I have the charcuterie at Restaurant Kolumbia. The prosciutto and artichoke schiacciata - easily my wife's fave of the day homemade terrine (I think it was mdt's) Scott's collards - as mentioned before, absolutely delicious mktye's bacon buns - mmmmmmm.... foie gras cornbread - talk about decadent Oh, yeah .... and there was some pig product Both were excellent - and that skin...oh, that skin.... We had a great time meeting so many people! Thanks SO much to the organizers for all the hard work. We're already looking forward to the spring event!
