Our go to Pho 88 is somehow closed on Tuesday (!), so we gave Pho 50 a try.

FWIW, FCNP reports that Pho 88 is "closed for renovations" and due back open in October...

FWIW, Pho 88 has re-opened. I got an order for the wife, but she didn't think it was as flavorful as she remembered. it may just be that she had made homemade pho a couple weeks prior, and this restaurant version didn't carry the same intense flavor profile. Or maybe it just wasn't very good. I dunno.

Pho 88 in Falls Church was really good today (Pho Chin all around) but I am almost positive the staff was speaking Chinese, not Vietnamese. Did I get that wrong?

Pretty sure they’re Chinese, and I don’t think they’re very good.

That place is horrible. There's barely anybody during lunch or dinner.  And yes, the staffs are Chinese not that matters, bad is bad.

The broth is white. How could Pho broth be white? Because they don't any spices that make Pho Pho. No cinnamon, no star anise. That also explains the lack of the particular Pho smell that permeates all of Pho places. It's overly salty and with so much MSG that's the only thing you can taste. The "Free range" chicken has no taste and has no texture. The beef tastes like it has been cooked overnight. The noodles clumps together like a piece of rock. There's barely any scallions and the cilantro looks like reused ones. 2 twig of basil with may be 4 leaves on them. I could go on and on.

(I don't care much for Pho 88 Falls Church either, but yes, the reply was blunt enough where it stood out ... but if you read the words, there's nothing in there that's personal; kieplangdu just detests the restaurant.)
