Sthitch
If you like Aussie wines, Wide World of Wines in Glover Park is unsurpassed. And the staff is very friendly and helpful. Since Heritage India--just up the street--is one of our favorites, we usually combine a trip to WWOW and a dinner at Heritage. On Saturday Nov. 12, Wide World is having a special in store tasting of fine Champanges. The tasting will include 1990 Krug, Krug MV, Grande Dame, Dom, Salon, Winston Churchill, Cristal, and many more. Also Jill from Cheestique is going to be there with some of her cheeses. This event costs $75, with half of the money going to the Fight For Children charity, plus a portion of all Champagne sales for the month of Nov. will also be going to the same charity. vengroff
I don't think I've ever had champagne paired with cheese before, so I did a little googling to see what kind of pairings were recommended. I found this page listing several. <off-topic> I started looking at some of the other pairings on the page and came across the one matching cream cheese and white zinfandel. I think that has got to be among the most brilliant pairings of food and wine I have ever seen. If those two don't go with one another I don't know what does. </off-topic>
CrescentFresh
Jill Erber, very correctly, recommends chaource with champagne.
Sthitch
Jill Erber, very correctly, recommends chaource with champagne. It matches beautifully. But that only makes sense since they both come from the same part of France. I forgot to add in the previous posts, I am going to be pouring Champange at this event. I think Wide World of Wines on Wisconsin is doing a Terry Theise tasting this afternoon. Four champagnes are being tasted and each one is sale for about $10-15 off. These are all a good deal, and if anyone out there is looking for a good assortment of Terry Theise Champagnes that won't break the bank, call (202) 333-7500 and order a mixed case (or whatever). Elliot Staren the owner will probably answer the phone - tell him I said hello. Cheers, Rocks.
collije
I could definitely stand to pick up a few bottles myself to have handy, thanks as well Sthitch and alan! Unfortunately can't attend today w/ my friends, but will check on Wild World's schedule for the rest of the year. If there are any other stores/vendors, I'd love to hear about them as well. Sthitch
Wide World often does a big champagne tasting closer to the holidays.Because of the rather poor Champagne vintage releases Eliot has decided to curtail these large tastings until there is another decent vintage released. The last one he had was the night before my wife and I left on our honeymoon, we were still quite tipsy when we boarded the plane the next morning. Now off to buy more Champagne. Sthitch
If you are around this weekend Wide World of Wines is having a free Armagnac tasting. The following are going to be opened on Saturday: 89 Domaine Rieston 87 Doamine Lagoue 86 Domaine Martin 76 Domaine Petit Lassis These along with all of the other Armagnacs that the store has in stock are on sale. They probably have the best Armagnac selection in the city.
