DanielK Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 If anyone plans on going for lunch, let me know with some warning and I'll sneak out of work to join you as it's only about a 15 minute drive from my office. See, and I'm just the opposite - it's 10 minutes from my house, so whenever people want to go for dinner, I can swing by on the way home from work...
DanielK Posted September 15, 2005 Author Posted September 15, 2005 Sorry to digress from the whole Eve love-fest... I have convinced my boss to let me telecommute once a week or so , so I figure I should treat myself to lunch tomorrow (Friday) in central-southern Montgomery County (let's call it Germantown to Bethesda - basically anywhere along the 355/270 corridor). Anyone open? Sushi, pho, cuban, dim sum, etc. - I'm game.

DanielK Posted September 16, 2005 Author Posted September 16, 2005 Urban BBQ noonish? Done. I'll be wearing my telecommuting uniform - shorts, t-shirt, and a Nats cap.
JPW Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Done. I'll be wearing my telecommuting uniform - shorts, t-shirt, and a Nats cap. Just look for the shirt.
DanielK Posted October 3, 2005 Author Posted October 3, 2005 Anybody up for lunch in Montgomery County tomorrow? I have the day off, and should be free from services and ready for lunch by 12:30 or 1. I'm craving Chinese food (Joe's, Bob's, A&J, China Bistro, etc.), but I'll go with a consensus. Anything Gaithersburg to Bethesda is easily reachable. Who's in?

Both my kids are home from school today with fevers of 102 and croupy coughs. I have a feeling tomorrow will be much of the same so I will have to go next time. Edit to say that I have tickets to the sold-out Black Crowes show tonight that I now can't use so if anyone wants them please PM me. It's a hop, skip and jump from the bar at Corduroy to the club. porcupine Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 The new Rocklands (Wintergreen Plaza on Rockville Pike) is now open. Anyone from the Rockville Pike lunch crew interested in a foray?
DanielK Posted February 10, 2006 Author Posted February 10, 2006 The new Rocklands (Wintergreen Plaza on Rockville Pike) is now open.Anyone from the Rockville Pike lunch crew interested in a foray? Thursday or Friday next week would work for me at lunch, or any evening for dinner.
JPW Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Thursday or Friday next week would work for me at lunch, or any evening for dinner. Pick a day
porcupine Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Pick a day Friday for lunch. You pick a time.
hm212 Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Count me in for lunch next Friday. Maybe the following week we should do urban bbq for comparison purposes.
DanielK Posted February 14, 2006 Author Posted February 14, 2006 Tried out the brand spanking new Rockville Rocklands tonight. Tonight's carryout order: Half rack of pork ribs Dried out and tough, smothered in a too sweet sauce. Red Hot & Blue may be soulless corporate 'cue, but at least the pork is tender. These were not, NOT good. Hot Wings I was expecting something like Buffalo wings. These were cooked, then drowned in a slightly spicier version of the rib sauce and grilled until the sauce turned black. Mustard Greens were tender but oddly flavorless, with a watery pot liquor. They had chunks of leftover shredded pork in them instead of bacon or fatback. Mashed Potatoes not notable in any way. Needed butter, cream and seasoning. Macaroni & cheese was indistguishable from the Velveeta shells & cheese an old roommate of mine always whipped up for himself when stoned. They would probably taste better in that state of mind. Grilled catfish Ordered for the kids. This was on the specials board, but they failed to note that it was a sandwich instead of an entree, so there was not quite enough to split between the two little Shorters. Total bill = $44.00. Despite being 2 minutes from my house I doubt we will be back. I'd rather go to Urban or R,H & B. The food sucked and there's no kid's menu or portions offered. Yikes. We still trying this place for lunch on Friday?
porcupine Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Yikes. We still trying this place for lunch on Friday? I'm thinkin' there'r bigger fish to fry. Thanks for the heads-up, Heather.
hm212 Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 I'm thinkin' there'r bigger fish to fry. Thanks for the heads-up, Heather. Sounds like Rocklands lunch is off - Anyone want to do Urban BBQ?
JPW Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Hey Rockville Pike Lunch Club -- What's the plan for Friday? If we don't do Rocklands, I cast a vote for the Kabob place next to Joe's.
porcupine Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Hey Rockville Pike Lunch Club --What's the plan for Friday? If we don't do Rocklands, I cast a vote for the Kabob place next to Joe's. DanielK Posted March 31, 2006 Author Posted March 31, 2006 Hey RPLC.Anyone up for lunch today? Sorry, just haven't had a telecommute day in weeks, as I've been traveling. I might be working from home Wednesday or Thursday next week, so stay tuned.
porcupine Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Hey RPLC.Anyone up for lunch today? would love to, but I'm on a tight schedule today.
JPW Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 I'm being indecisive today. Where should I go for lunch?
mdt Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 I'm being indecisive today. Where should I go for lunch? McDonald's.
JPW Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 McDonald's. Close I ended up having a rather poor burger at hard times. Does NB have any outside seating? With this weather today wouldn't it be great to sit outside for HH? Any interest in finding a spot with outdoor seating? I seem to recall seeing a couple of tables in the courtyard.
porcupine Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Calling the Rockville Pike Lunch Club: did you see the blurb about Blue Mountain Cafe in Kliman's chat today? Sounds like a good candidate.

DanielK Posted April 5, 2006 Author Posted April 5, 2006 Thursday is a potential RPLC gathering for me this week - I'll know more tomorrow. False alarm - I'm a no-go until at least the week of the 24th.

DanielK Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 That would be very cool, HV! Does 12:15 work for everyone? It's at 808 Hungerford Drive (same road as Rockville Pike, but with a dumber traffic planning engineer), 2 blocks south of Montgomery College. Halfway between Gude Dr and Rte. 28.
Heather Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 I would love to join you, but would have to bring both the kids. Maybe next time.
DanielK Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 I would love to join you, but would have to bring both the kids. Maybe next time. I vote for bring the kids, but do what you gotta do...
porcupine Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 12:15 works. See you then I'm in. Joe and Hillvalley, I'll bring your stuff along with me.
DanielK Posted September 13, 2006 Author Posted September 13, 2006 I drove by this place at least twice a week when we were in Rockville but never checked it out. Emma's visiting a friend in Potomac this weekend, so I might swing by the deli after dropping her off and pick up something to go. I'm starting my "Telework Thursday" schedule this week - perhaps a meeting of the Rockville Pike Lunch Club is in order?
JPW Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 I'm starting my "Telework Thursday" schedule this week - perhaps a meeting of the Rockville Pike Lunch Club is in order?11 AM meeting tomorrow so it'd have to be after noon for me.Where is this joint?

DanielK Posted October 12, 2006 Author Posted October 12, 2006 Any Rockville Pike Lunch Club members, or prospective members, up for lunch on Thursday? Maybe the frequently mentioned Bob's 88 Shabu Shabu? The very small amount of english on this page seems to indicate they are open for lunch every day.

The very small amount of english on this page seems to indicate they are open for lunch every day. For a non-Mandarin speaker, looking at that page is hilarious. I should be able to make it today Dan. 11:30? Do me a favor, PM me your new cell number in case something comes up. I still only have your old one. ALL ARE WELCOME. Just reply to this thread if you want to show up so we know to look for you. Happy 22nd mktye!
DanielK Posted October 12, 2006 Author Posted October 12, 2006 11:30 is fine. PM incoming. Heather, it's not THAT far...

JPW Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I work right on Rockville Pike (waaay up in G'burg) - can I come too?? Dude, ALL ARE WELCOME.see you at 11:30
DanielK Posted October 12, 2006 Author Posted October 12, 2006 Address is 316 N.Washington Street, Rockville. Coming south on 355, pass Montgomery College and take a soft right on to N. Washington St. Bob's is a block and a half down on the right.
Scott Johnston Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Anyone up for lunch in Rockville tomorrow (wednesday)? I was think A&J, but could go anywhere
DanielK Posted October 18, 2006 Author Posted October 18, 2006 Anyone up for lunch in Rockville tomorrow (wednesday)? I was think A&J, but could go anywhere No can do. Thursday is my only telework day.
JPW Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Anyone up for lunch in Rockville tomorrow (wednesday)? I was think A&J, but could go anywhereScott,I should be able to. Let me check back in at about 10 when I have a better idea what data disasters the day holds for me. A+J sounds like a good plan.
DanielK Posted December 27, 2006 Author Posted December 27, 2006 OK, time for a separate thread to keep these discussions out of the "On a whim..." topic. So, anyone up for lunch on Thursday this week?
JPW Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Yeah, I should be able to make it. Thoughts on locale?
xcanuck Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 I'm in. Can we do A&J?DING! DING! DING! (or Joe's Noodle House....or Bob's 66 Noodles...sense a theme here?). Count me in.
JPW Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 I'm in. Can we do A&J?Unfortunately, that was the last destination, on 12/8. I've been meaning to stop by Mykonos. Edit to add: Nothing to do with ol_ironstomach's complaint that we always do Chinese.
hillvalley Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 And that's a problem how I've never been so I figured I should have at least some of you around to guide me through
DanielK Posted December 27, 2006 Author Posted December 27, 2006 I'm good with any of the choices (including A&J, since I missed the 12/8 meeting), though it definitely sounds like we should back-burner Joe's Noodle until things settle out. I'll throw Brooklyn's Deli out there too, as I've been meaning to get back there. FYI, while I like Mykonos, it's not a cheap or quick lunch. Entree and a drink will probably be $20, give or take a couple of bucks. And if we order apps or desserts...
JPW Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Then I nominate Bob's, although it wouldn't take too much arm twisting to get me into A&J
