There were rumors and some circumstantial evidence that Fabian Cancellara may have been using one of these motors as early as the 2010 season before anybody was really paying attention to the possibility that the devices were mature enough for a major road race. Some speculate that the current trend towards electronic shifting (itself a very cool bit of tech) got its start from engineers figuring out how to integrate hidden battery packs in bike frames!
