Dmitri Hvorostovsky (Дми́трий Алекса́ндрович Хворосто́вский, 1962-2017) - Legendary Russian Baritone Opera Singer

Recommended Posts

The great Russian baritone, Dmitri Hvorotovsky, known primarily in America through his recordings of Tschaikovsky and Verdi, passed away this week after a 2 1/2-year struggle with brain cancer.

The Metropolitan Opera's loving tribute to Hvorotovsky is here: "Dmitri Hvorotovsky." (Do take a few minutes and watch the videos - the second video was when Hvorotovsky only had about six more months to live.)

He was one of the few singers I've seen and heard that I would call "exciting". He was visually arresting and vocally unbelievable. His acting in the Met DVD production of Verdi's Il Trovatore is nothing short of amazing. Here is a clip of my favorite trio in the opera: Turn up the volume .It's all beautiful,  the  real fun starts around 5:00
