ISO Whole nutmegs

Recommended Posts

Not sure if there is a thread for where to find ingredients, I don’t expect this one to go too deep.

But I am now 0-5 for finding whole nutmegs at grocery stores, they are all pre-ground. When did that happen?  Has DC DonRockwellians seen it recently anywhere?

I know I saw whole nutmeg at Penzeys the last time I was there. But that was a couple months ago...

I bought some at Giant (in Wheaton) in December. They were the McCormick Gourmet Organic brand.

Pretty sure I've seen whole nutmeg at Wegmans, Penzeys, and Whole Foods. Will double check the spice aisles the next time I'm in a grocery store.

Thanks everyone!  Whole Foods is a place that does not sell them (anymore).  Freshly grated nutmeg adds a nice nose to cocktails.

I think I saw them at Harris Teeter in Old Town in the McCormick Organic racks.  I also think they might have them at Shoppers (mine has 4 different spice sections, so I can normally find stuff in one of them), but I would call before you go.

That's where I get them. They've stocked them for years, so I'd be surprised if that's stopped.

Yes! I bought mine during my holiday season eggnog obsession.

I've found them in the smaller, Latin spices section of the Giant where I shop (at the end of the rice-and-dried bean aisle), as opposed to the main spice racks in the baking aisle.  I've also gotten them at Penzey's.
