Taste old and new vintages from Saint-Emilion, Margaux and Saint-Julien, personally meeting the producer of each; this is a unique occasion! Meet Anabelle Cruse Bardinet, Winemaker/Proprietor, Chateau Corbin; Emmanuel Cruse, Owner/Director, Chateau d’Issan and Bruno Eynard, Winemaker/Director, Chateau Lagrange.
We will begin with a seated tasting and each maker will present his/her wines. The seated tasting will be followed by a social reception of wine from the Chateaux and hors d’oeuvres from Ici Bistro.
7:00 – 8:30pm: Seated tasting
8:30 – 9:00pm: Informal reception, with a selection of hors d’oeuvres from Ici Bistro
Château Corbin (Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé)
Château Corbin, a Grand Cru Classé on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, is one of the oldest estates in St.-Emilion, as well as one of the region’s “up-and-comers.” A family property of 13 hectares, Corbin has been owned and managed since 1999 by Anabelle Cruse Bardinet. After renovating the Château, rebuilding the cellars and improving vineyard and winemaking techniques, Ms. Bardinet is reaping the benefits with stylish wines that have garnered praise from fans and critics alike.
Château d’Issan (Margaux Grand Cru Classé)
Château d’Issan has been called “one of the stars of Margaux” by Robert Parker, thanks to the leadership of Emmanuel Cruse, who took the helm of this Third Growth in 1993 and has spearheaded a dramatic rise in quality, fuelled by family investments of more than $6 million. An historic property, where grapes have been grown since the 12th century, the Château dates to the 17th century and is one of the most beautiful in Bordeaux. Acquired by Emmanuel Cruse’s grandfather in 1945, Château d’Issan remains privately owned by the Cruse family.
Château Lagrange (Saint-Julien Grand Cru Classé)
A Third Growth in the Classification of 1855, Château Lagrange is the largest classified growth in the Médoc, with 113 hectares under vine. An historic estate that has enjoyed an upsurge of critical praise, Lagrange was acquired in 1983 by Suntory, the Japanese wine and spirits conglomerate, which has spared no expense in extensive replanting and renovation. In 2007, Bruno Eynard took over as winemaker/director, having worked as second-in-command for 17 years under his predecessor and mentor, Marcel Ducasse.

The French Wine Society offers you a unique opportunity to increase your wine knowledge with an in-depth and thorough series of classes on the wine regions of France that are as fun as they are educational.
Each 90-minute class is taught by a Certified Wine Educator. Taste the wines. Hear the legends. Learn the wine laws. Understand the legacy.
Each class includes a tasting of 6 to 8 wines of the region being studied.

Bonjour !!!
On September 18th, the French Wine Society will host a grand BURGUNDY wine tasting with over 25 wine producers represented (from large producers such as Latour, Jadot, ... to smaller producers, some even not sold in the US).
The list of featured domaines and wines should be available on the FWS website by August 15th.
All wines (if distributed in the US) will be available for purchase with special prices through Schneiders of Capitolf Hill.
It is not every day in DC that over 100 wines from Burgundy are available for tasting... so we hope to see you at the tasting !!!

Hello,
the French Wine Society and his friend Panos have put together a great Bordeaux Wine Tour for this October.
The tour, guided by Panos, will include visits, stays and meals in great chateaux. Limited to 12 persons.

The FWS thought not much was done for spirits lovers to taste Cognac, so we exceptionally decided not to feature wine but Cognac at one of our French Wine Thursdays.
So, join us this Thursday at Indebleu (May 18th) for a French Wine Thursday featuring a selection of Frapin Cognac, established in “Grande Champagne” since 1270 and presented to you by their cellar master. Each of the following cognacs will be paired with an hors d'oeuvre prepared by Indebleu's chef, Vikram Garg.

For French Wines, The French Wine Society I am managing, could think about gathering orders for interested people.
Should we base this on what retailers propose, and then people order what they are interested in, or should we start with what the group wants and then see which retailer can supply the wine and at what price ?

After adding the post regarding our Champagne tasting of this week, I just received the list of wines for our French Wine Thursday of next week (Th. May 11th) at Citronelle.
For this tasting, 6 Burgundy wines (3 whites, 3 reds), selected and presented by Potomac Selections, will be featured:

The French Wine Society and the prestigious Society of Wine Educators (SWE), at http://www.wine.gurus.com, have joined forces to provide you with an opportunity to enrich your knowledge of French wine and increase your enjoyment.
The curriculum is divided into two sessions of 4 classes, with each class focusing on a specific wine region.

Every Thursday evenings, the French Wine Society holds the The French Wine Thursdays. Tasting of 5 wines from a specific region, and in general a specific producer, presented by importers. These tastings are organized in a different restaurant every Thursday. The chef of the host restaurant prepares 5 hors d'oeuvres matching the featured wines.
I don't think we have a thread like this for short alerts about tastings around town, so I figured I'd start one, as it seems like I find out about a lot of interesting tastings after the fact.Randall Grahm of Bonny Doon is going to be doing a tasting at Calvert-Woodley this Wednesday from 4-6. From some stories I've heard (and the humorous text on his bottles) he seems like quite a character.

I've just discovered this forum and was surprised to see many names I new from the wine business, and how serious about wine it seems to be.
I am the president of a young non profit trade organization callled the French Wine Society (FWS).
Me and other young French Wine professionals launched the organization 10 months ago in DC and hope to get it launched in Chicago and NY soon.
We have 20 importers on board (website does not list all of them, I will update it this weekend).
I was thinking this online wine community could allow us to get feedbacks, comments, suggestions from you ... Maybe some of you might even want to get involved in the FWS.
Also, we need help to get more exposure. If some of you can help...
Coming up next we have:
- April 26th at the French Embassy: "April in Rhone" with more than 100 wines and 10 restaurants. In partnership with Mac Arthur Beverages.
Note: people from the Trade, we have a trade tasting in the afternoon. If you want to attend, please email us your full contact info at contact@frenchwinesociety.org
- Classes: starting May first, a new session of French WIne Classes, prepared in partnership with the SWE, will start. 8 classes, devided in 2 sessions, allow to cover all the main wine regions of France. Monday evenings at the French Embassy. Trade and consumers are welcome.
- The French Wine Thursdays: weekly, we organize these food and wine tasting in a different restaurant.
Next week, on Thursdqy 27th, we are very happy to welcome Jerome Quiot, Owner of Domaine du Vieux Lazaret in Chateauneuf du Pape, president of the Université du Vin and former president of the INAO, he will present 5 of his wines paired with the cuisine of Café Matisse ($50/pers.)

"Return to Terroir" comes to DC (feb. 24th 09)!

Dear fellow wine enthusiasts,
We, at the French Wine Society, are thrilled that "Return to Terroir" (known as "Renaissance des Appellations" in French) has accepted our invitation to join us for their first tasting in Washington DC.
"Return to Terroir" is an international consortium of biodynamic producers. The group was founded by Nicolas Joly.
Forty-seven producers will visit Washington D.C. and pour over 200 wines at the grand tasting. There will also be a not-to-be-missed lecture given by Nicolas Joly from Coulée de Serrant.
This is on February 24th at the French Embassy.
Not confirmed yet, we are discussing with the group to organize the following day a full day educational program with 4 thematic seminars on Biodynamy with producer panels.
I will keep you posted on this.
