  1. I've always wanted to try this, but have been intimidated by the burn factor. Plus, my dough making skills are sorely lacking.

    Anyone have a dough recipe?

I dont have a dough recipe that we have tried, but a easy and inexpensive premade dough is found at trader joe's. I think it comes in 3 different "flavors" wheat, white, and a rosemary (I think that is the herb). It is easy to roll out and depending on thickness the crust is crisp, and not too doughy.

  2. It was OK, fine for $8. I didn't really like the crust, which seemed designed to be like focaccia but seemed more to me like (non-sweet) pop tart. On the positive side, it had several toppings (pepperoni, sausage, green pepper, red onion, mushroom, olive, ??) and not was not gloppy and greasy. When I get a slice at the cafe/restaurant, there's too much cheese and it's oozy and greasy. That was not the case with this. It was drier and maybe (despite the toppings) too bland.

Since this seems to be a new product, I have no idea how representative it is. Someone I know in another part of the country says that he's had no problem fitting Costco pizzas into his oven. ETA: He also says they've had the square ones there for some time.

Fortunately, getting the oven cleaned up after this wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

We have never had any issues placing pizza's from costco in our oven. Of course I have only seen and gotten their large round ones. As far as taste goes, it is decent, the crust is a bit bready for my liking, but we cook it on a pizza stone so it gets crispy on the bottom. We aslo have a habit of gourmeting it up with whatever we feel like that evening.

  3. I work in Crystal City and am way excited to learn that a farmers market is coming. In addition to the thousands of government contractors working here, there are also a number of condo buildings, etc... around to help fuel the success of this addition.

Not to mention that our daughters love to get out and see all the vendors at outdoor markets. Fresh produce yum!

  4. I know that Demetrius almost a month ago promised some people pictures of the meal we made for our family at Easter. This was our first official "Holiday meal" that we prepared and we wanted it to be special so we used a recipe of Bob Kincaid's his tortilla pepita crusted salmon with shrimp ragout' as the main course, grilled vegetables (squash, zucchini, peite peppers and onions), basic grilled scallops as the appitizer and for dessert we made a carrot cake out of the Philidelphia commisary cookbook. .

Let me just say that it was a blast cooking a dish that required so many steps, and was out of my comfort zone (meaning I actually had to read the receipe/s) and it looked almost a pretty as the pictures. I did have a few issues such as not havnig a blender and having to use a chopper and strainer to create the sauces, and not adding crab (to the ragout) everything went off wit hout a hitch.

One thing I would say about the carrot cake is the pecan filling that it suggests (sugar, flour and pecans) was a little too sweet for my taste it reminded me of German Chocolate cake iciing without the coconut. But, Here are some of the pictures of our dinner.

  5. Hello there,

My name is Amberleigh and I have been lurkring around the blog for about a year now - only through my husband Demetrius. He finally get tired of telling me about what was going on and suggested I join myself. So about myself - I am currently a first grade teacher in Alexandria, when I am not teaching I run around chasing our two young girls and my husband (ok we chase each other if we are not run down by the girls). I enjoy doing all sorts of things, cooking is only one of those things. Currently I have been delving in some cake decorating, and canning different seasonal fruit. Demetrius and I like to expose the girls to as much fresh from the farm produce as possible and I know that many of the places we have visited have come from places he has seen mentioned here. We also love to visit different vineyards in the state. Anyway, before I get too verbose I will say goodnight for now. See you all online.
