  1. Indeed was a nice evening. Glad both of you enjoyed the Orange salad.

BTW... this is my first time reading about the "Dinner Party or Parties, rather," topic, and wow!! There is challenge.. Perhaps I should team up with Barbara and do more dinner parties! :)! or some "Tasting Parties"!

  2. If you have read Pepin's memoir The Apprentice, then you will know why he had to stop working in restaurants and found his niche in Public Television and subsequent cookbook writing. For those of you unfamiliar with this, he was classically trained in France from the time he was about 13, came to the US after a stint in the French Navy where he wound up as the French President's chef, and worked at Le Pavillion with Pierre Franey. Then, when that place closed, Franey went to work for Howard Johnson in the test kitchen and got Pepin a job there, too. A bad car accident in 1972 (IIRC) left him unable to stand in a kitchen for hours on end. In the meantime, he went to NYU (without ever having attended High School) and earned degrees in art and French literature. At some point he became a Dean at the French Culinary Institute. The artwork in his books and on the show with Julia Child are all his. The boy knows what he is talking about.

    Indeed he does!

  3. So, some news about upcoming DCCK nights.

First of all, the session I had reserved on 11/10 was cancelled. That's now the night of Capital Food Fight, so DCCK is understandably closed.

However, they have now opened up the 5p-8p shift to 5 nights/week. Now, I'm happy to keep scheduling Mondays and Thursdays, because those nights are good for me. However, those of you who are regulars, or who might become regulars if we had a different night, please send me a PM. I'm going to schedule a backup for November, but I'm also going to go book a bunch for 2012, so let me know if I should be considering other days than Mon/Thurs.

    Oh! <_< I didn't read this message.

Well count me in for 2012, Mondays and Thursdays, after 4:45 pm.
