Another 'Closed' for the Dining Guide....
-
Any improvements here in the past 6 months?
-
I used to go here quite often, especially on Monday's at lunchtime for the Lamb Burgers. I forget what it is that they put in the mayo on that burger, but it makes the trip there totally worth it.
I haven't been in a few months now, but maybe I will tomorrow and report back.
(I hope I'm not bringing this thread back from the dead against policy or whatever)
-
I work off of Van Ness and have had lunch here a few times in 2006. Slightly more expensive than I am used to for lunch, but a welcome change from the usual fare I am used to eating around the area.
Has it reopened yet?
-
Anyone tried the lunch at this place?
-
I've meaning to make it out to one of these, but it always seems to happen when I am out of town.
Hopefully there is a next time soon
-
Just got back from trying out their lunch buffet. Saw the sign mention in #1 above
They definitely need to work on their whole deal
Gonna give it another try in a few months.
-
Thank you, and you're quite welcome!
They are indeed open for lunch, and apparently they have been getting a good sized lunch crowd.
Bon Appetit!
Nanther
Excellent, I think you all know where I will be at lunchtime on Monday
-
Thanks for that excellent review.
Do you know if they are open for lunch before the grand opening? (It's the only meal for which I am in Van Ness during the day)
-
Went to Rasika on monday night for my birthday.
Did the Tasting Menu and was really happy with it, as were the vegetarians who went with us.
The chocolate samosa with the ganache(?) filling was great as well!

If you imagine this route as a triangle, then the origin is the OPH. There is a lot to see in that area.
-
The Original Pancake House is within walking distance of a few places that they can stay entertained at, although I doubt they'd wanna be outside with a baby and highs of about 49.
White Flint Mall maybe? I am not sure anymore, my memories of that area are slowly fading away
-
Are there any middle eastern places that have rotisserie chicken?
I haven't had any since I visited my parents there in 2000. They have since moved
-
It is me, or has their Suicide Curry gotten a lot less...suicidal...of late?
I remember it being a lot more punchy.
Nanther
I'm not sure about that. I haven't been in about 6 months now.
-
That's just great
Off to Spices for some Suicide Curry I guess...
-
The Van Ness area was vacant land except for the Bureau of Standards on the northwest corner of Connecticut and Van Ness (now UDC)
We were talking about the BoS a few days ago and figured that, it stood where UDC now stands. Kinda nice to know for sure.
I have forgotten to look inside the past few times I've been past this place.
Any progress?

I work in the Van Ness area and have been to Delhi Dhaba 3 times in the past 2 years. Each time they have gotten a little better, but not enough to make me keep coming back.
Indique in Cleveland Park was different, in a good way. It's nice to have the dishes that you are used to done a little different once in a while.
I have yet to venture out to Woodley Park for lunch, but would like to try it out.
I am from South India and from a town that especially has a lot of seafood in the diet of most non-vegetarians (anyone wanna make a guess where?...no it's not in Kerala or Goa ) & I hope the seafood here will be better than what I have had elsewhere.
If nothing else, I'll be able to justify going somewhere other than Epicurean and Co for lunch, it's getting a little old
-
I found this thread too late I guess
Is there a waiting in line list now?
-
I just wanted to pop in here and say that Don's review of this place has been the best review I have ever read for ANYTHING.
-
I would like to add to the love being expressed for Minerva.
It isn't mom's cooking, but when I am craving some good Indian food, it hit's the spot.
I do prefer the one in Herndon to the one in Fairfax for some unknown reason.
(excuse me while i go wipe the drool off my shirt)

Wu's Garden is at 418 Maple Avenue East in Vienna. It is a old style American Chinese restaurant. I found that I like the dated décor and the old fashion look to the building. The service was great! I will assume that the owner (maybe Mr Wu himself?) waited on us. There were two other couples in the restaurant while we were there on a Monday night. We started out with hot and sour soup, nothing special but a nice way to start the meal. We went on to have the Kang Pao Beef, which was very good and spicy, a so so Moo Shi Pork and a average Mandarin Fried Rice.
Wu’s Garden is average, a good place to take kids, but I wish I could find better (but close) Chinese to Vienna.

No web site that I can find
I like House of Mandarin off Rt. 123 on Glyndon St.
It's family owned....not much wrt ambience or decor, but they have recently redone the place to accomodate those of us who don't want to run the dishwasher at home
I love their Singapore Noodles

I'm not sure, but I did find this on the web.
For whatever it's worth, I've only been once - sometime last summer - and a carryout Friends Combo 1 (kubideh and chicken kabobs) didn't leave me with that much of an impression one way or the other. The typos on their carryout menu are breathtaking.
Cheers,
Rocks.
Zabihah.com seems to be a pretty reliable site for halal restaurants from what I have heard.
Those typos are awesome fun btw
-
I second the friends kabob rec-- everything I have ever had there has been great. don't go expecting any atmosphere though.
That's true.
Although there is some soccer from the middle east playing on the tv sometimes
-
Friends Kabob (right before the intersection of Gallows & 123, next to Word Market/Linen's and Things)
Their Chickpea soup is great.

After being brainwashed by this thread, I gave in and went here last night. Ordered the Diablo with just the onions & jalapenos cooked medium & took it to go. Perfect.
I have definitely gotta go back & sit down and order another one with cheese when I am not in such a hurry.
The corn was perfectly done & the watermelon a nice finish to a great meal.
