  1. Black Jack will be hosting a Pre-Release Party for Port City's newest offering, Revival Stout

    Saturday, March 17, 2012 from 2PM to 4PM

Tickets are on sale for $55 per person, plus tax & fees.

Bill Butcher from Port City Brewing Company and Brad Blymier from War Shore Oyster Company will be on hand to talk about this amazing collaboration. Revival Stout is an old-world oyster stout made with War Shore Oysters and brewed by Port City Brewing Company. A portion of the proceeds from the sales by Port City for the Revival Stout are going to the Oyster Recovery Partnership. Join us at Black Jack to sample this oyster stout before the public gets a chance to taste, and indulge in all-you-can-eat oysters from War Shore Oyster Company. Official release of the oyster stout will be on April 6, 2012.

Tickets may also be purchased at Pearl Dive Oyster Palace & Black Jack.

  2. Compared to what I have found at various places on the Gulf coast, this is about half the size (and about the same price or more). BUT this is not a complaint, more of a wistful thinking, "What if you could get a sandwich this good, but twice as big, and it was warm and sunny outside and you could hear the ocean?" Then I remind myself it is better to be in DC than at the Florabama for many reasons, even if the sandwiches are smaller and it is cold and gray outside.

i heard the Florabama burned down, anyway ...

  3. Chef Smith really made our night by doing a vegan menu for my girlfriend (very tough emotionally for a chef to do)

    Tough emotionally? :)

Any chef who's inextricably involved with his meat products - especially on an emotional level - could stand to grow a little bit! (And maybe see Dr. Phil.) The awesome challenge involved with creating vegan-only menus is an adventure every chef should experience. Does wonders for your creativity.

Anyway, from what I've seen, that's what chefs live for - to puff up and perform when the stakes are even the least bit high-pressure. It makes the endless hours on your feet under fluorescent lights a little more bearable.
