We had our rehearsal dinner at Bistro D'oc. Benoit, the manager, did a great job organizing it and we held it in the upstairs front room. We had about 35 people, so 20 total is doable.

I heard on the radio this morning the bad news of a fire at Eastern Market. Sounds like it hit the part of the building where the food vendors are, and it's bad. Anyone had eyes on?

This morning they had the pictures on local news and they interviewed the owner of Capitol Hill Poultry. He discussed the possibility of his family simply moving on. I hope that this would not be the case and if anyone knows of ways to help out the vendors at Eastern Market please let everyone know about it.

There used to be a great place by GW (by 21st on G I think) called the G&W Deli. They made a mean egg and cheese.

Every day I drive past a storefront on the coner of Vermont Ave and U St. that says "Brown Sugar, Southern Cuisine." Coming Soon....

Does anyone know anything more about this restaurant?

I have my in-laws driving in tonight from Michigan, ariving around 7:00 or 7:30. They are staying up in 2 Amy's neighborhood .... how long do you think the wait would be for 4 around then on a Tuesday night? They might get impatient waiting, but I know they would love the pizza.

As far as the market, it is adjusting to the smoke-free demands of patrons. People have cited restaurants that have banned smoking--on the smokefreedc website there is a listing of 193 (though some such as CF FOlks and Firehook bakery shouldn't be that surprising).

Several bars are now open that advertise the fact they are smoke free-- such as Halo the bar across from Whole Foods and Clardendon Ballroom (though that is across the river).

If people really want smoke free bars they will "vote" with their pocketbooks, propreitors will notice this fact, and more smoke free bars will open.
