  1. I just lunched here for the first time today. I ordered the sprouted lentil burger on a hoagie roll. It came with shredded carrots, red onion, romaine, and cucumber, and a mildly flavored dressing (maybe something like tzatziki). The whole sandwich reminded me of a falafel, only less strongly flavored. I liked it overall, though the patty and the dressing could have used more oomph.

I like the feel of this place though and plan to return to try the numerous other menu items that appealed to me. It's only 2 miles from my work so i'll definitely be back.

also--found a good assortment of organic wines, mostly if not all imports, but some solid selections (Aglianico and Gigondas!)

  2. Stopped by Tavern on the Lake in Reston tonight. While the food never held more than barely marginal appeal, it was a decent alternative at times to the Reston Town Center. Alas, it was completely shuttered, and even had debt collectors' bills hanging off the doorway. Sorry to see it go, if not for the food but for the decent atmosphere (at times) and the smattering of hope it offered to the increasingly pathetic offerings of the potentially great Lake Anne Shopping Center. Yes, we've been to Jasmine Cafe, the French place, and Lakeside Cafe. Tavern on the Lake was head and shoulders above the rest, and that's not saying much. *Sigh*

In any event, we headed back to the mothership of RTC and went for another great bar meal at Passion Fish.

I had seen it up for sale late summer, guess there were no takers ($1.6m). it's a huge space to fill and i don't think i ever saw a big or medium crowd inside. the patio was a great place for a drink on a nice day, but that can't carry you through the year

  3. Good Day-

My name is Colleen and I am a Personal Chef in the area--career changer 8 years ago and never looked back! Joined this and eGullet a year or so ago and have lurked a lot and found much useful info on sources and dining 'destinations' reporting. Now, it's time to actively participate...and one day meet some of you at these great gatherings. Sadly, I have to work the night of the Vidalia bird dinner, so the husband will be attending for first hand reporting.

  4. Long time lurker...first time poster ;)

We've been fans of the 'big onion' since they first opened--and after every visit there's at least one thing that I wake up thinking about. This morning...Chicken fried morels in pepper spiked gravy and chive biscuit. More please. I will eat anything they are putting through the chicken fried gilding process! Ate at the bar and had some of everything--goat dish is incredible; torchon of foie; pork pate; tomato salads, and amazing cheese plate...runny goat cheese, oh my  Excellent Footbolt Shiraz and Garrigue Cotes du Rhone in the glass, plus a surprise flight of reds to accompany the main grazing portion of the evening, and a Finger Lakes Region Icewine (Riesling?) to cap off the gluttony!

Many thanks to Mike, Dmitiri, and Ed, and whomever made the morels (really, everyone in the kitchen!) for the usual excellent and generous hospitality! Makes the rest of the week seem quite manageable!
