I tried the cart at Capitol and E today and had one jerk chicken taco and one black bean taco. There were about 7-8 people in line ahead of me, but it moved pretty quickly. The tacos were decent and have a lot of filling for the price ($2.50). However, this is not necessarily good as the chicken taco was way too overstuffed and became a giant mess. The bean taco was a little soupy. Flavors were good and I liked the coconut shavings on the bean taco as well as the hot sauce. You can choose between hot and smoky sauce. All in all, it's a decent option, but considering that it's virtually outside Taqueria Nacionale, I don't know that I'll be going frequently.

I am beyond happy that there is finally a not only decent, but really delicious place to get sandwiches near Union Station. No more mediocre Phillips and Au Bon Pain sandwiches for me! I had the pork shoulder, broccoli rabe, and provolone, which comes with pesto. It was near perfection and I look forward to trying everything else. There are 14 sandwich selection and 3-4 pizzas by the slice. Today there was also a lasagna special. There are some pre-made salads in the case, which looked decent. As scj32 said, it's a bit pricey, although I think the pork shoulder is one of the more expensive sandwiches. It was pretty crowded around 12:45 today, which may be due in part to the blurb in the Post. The patio is lovely, but I wonder if indoor seating will be available in the winter. It didn't look like anyone was heading upstairs so I couldn't tell if that's an option.

Does anyone know CCC's hours?

Anyone been recently? I want to go today but it didn't look like he was there the other day.
ETA I walked over to 15th and K today and P&V's is no longer there. Not sure if he has moved, but I have been working in this area for about 3 months and I have not seen him once.
He was there last Friday and, amazingly, there was no line around 12:30. I've been there a few times in the last few months.

The line was manageable around 7:45. My diablo burger perfectly cooked to medium rare topped with sauteed mushrooms was fabulous and a root beer float was a perfect appetizer. Service was very friendly, especially Danielle at the register. Thanks for the new addition to the neighborhood!

I've been a longtime reader of this board, but I finally feel compelled to delurk after the two great tips I've received from you in the last week - free gelato at Dolcezza last week and free burgers at Ray's Hell Burger tonight (yum!)
I live in Arlington, moved here 2 years ago from Chicago. I still miss my favorite Chicago restaurants, but am enjoying eating my way around DC. I also love to cook and bake and am a frequent visitor to the Courthouse Farmers' Market.
I look forward to participating in the always lively conversations here!

I really wanted to like Cafe Assorti, but left feeling a bit ambivalent. I was there on Saturday evening around 6:30 and a few tables in the dining area were occupied and there appeared to be a party in the bar area. I wanted to try the Assorti Pie, but was told they were out so I ordered the sausage in dough. As mentioned previously, this is a standard hot dog with a very small amount of sauce inside some good bread. Using a good sausage would really elevate this dish. I also ordered the carrot salad and the waiter wasn't sure if it was available. I ate my hot dog and then another waiter brought the carrot salad. It was very tasty (I think it had been freshly made) with a nice garlic/spice kick. The service was friendly, but not particularly efficient. I finally had to motion to my waiter, who was just standing around, that I was finished. I had heard the chocolate cake is good so I ordered a piece, only to be told that they were also out of that. I gave up, paid my bill and headed out.
As I live down the street, I'll probably go back to try out the bakery and possibly breakfast, but don't see myself going back for dinner.
