  1. Yes! Hands down this is one of the best meals I've had in DC! Johnny Monis is a fantastic chef and he can definitely rock his nike swoosh bandana in the kitchen.

Some of my favorite mezzethakia from the degustazione a couple weeks ago were:

    *salmon belly w/ frozen shisho

    *caesar salad crouton

*hangar steak tartare w/ truffle ice cream

*and yes, of course the suckling pig

I put the full list of mezze and wine pairings on my blog: www.panachenosh.com

  2. Despite some of the staff jumping ship...

...the lobster pot is still delicious! I ordered one for a party of three this past weekend and you get onions, potatoes, corn on the cob, clams, mussels, butter, seasoning, and a 1.25 pound lobster from RI. Delicious! I have a longer writeup and some pictures of the free aluminum container that you get. Runs about $45 per person including tax, etc...

  3. I'm a fan of CG b/c they are consistently good. Over the years I've had no complaints and have enjoyed steak after steak.

I can recall one time though (and this guy must have been a new server) when I was being 'educated' on the difference between a pinot and a cab. My server was making the good ol' milk analogy between the two (skim v. whole milk)...needless to say that was my first and last time seeing him.

  4. I stopped by today over lunch and I can't say that I was impressed. I tried the You Tart! which was dry but the lemon frosting was nice and not overly sweet. I also tried the Prima Donna (chocolate cake w/ strawberry buttercream frosting) and didn't like the frosting (think toothpast consistency but strawberry flavored) but the cake was moist. They only had about half of the cupcakes they listed on the menu b/c people were buying them by the box.

I covered the opening and posted about 7 pictures on Panache Nosh: http://panachenosh.blogspot.com/

Fox News was there covering a piece on the 'recession' which will air tonight at 6pm.

  5. You know what? Maybe not. I had heard Bistro 123 had closed, and that it was now a Neisha. So I drove by yesterday to see for myself - sure enough, Neisha was open, but there were a lot of windows that were covered up where Bistro 123 was; I didn't remember Neisha was already there before.

So in summary: Bistro 123 is definitely closed ... and that's all I know!

    Thanks for the (probable) correction,

    Rocks.

It's definitely closed. Window coverings (not the kind that give the impression the place is open) have recently been placed inside and the Bistro 1 2 3 sign has been removed. It doesn't look like anyone is occupying the space currently...but it may be available for lease soon?
