  2. I am the events manager at Anderson House, a historic house museum near Dupont Circle. We are having a prohibition-themed wine tasting on Thursday, September 23rd, 6-8pm. We will serve wines that are reminiscent of wines that the Andersons had in their cellar and that they continued to enjoy throughout prohibition. We will also serve some light refreshments and have a special display or archival materials relating to prohibition in Washington. The cost is $15/person.

More info can be found on our website: http://www.societyofthecincinnati.org/public.htm#events

  4. Hi all,

I was just curious if there were any caterers you all liked for your office hot or cold lunches or snacks. I feel like it is time to branch out, but some are a bit too pricey. I think my office likes to stick to $13 per person (sandwich, salad, dessert) for cold lunches and around $19-22 per person for hot lunches.

Could you also list who you work with at the catering company too?

    Thank you all in advance!

I've ordered lunches from Bread & Brew, and they are quite good. They offer a variety of sandwiches and salads and a cookie/brownie platter in that price range. I usually speak with Teri, who is very helpful.

  5. Can you post more specifics about the event here? Sounds interesting, and the price is pretty damn cheap!

Sorry for the delayed response, I've been out of town for work.

We've had a few wine tastings, and they've been a lot of fun. We try to select wines around a theme - this time the wines will all be summery whites from countries that the Andersons visited. If weather permits we'll serve the wine in our recently-rennovated garden. The museum and some behind-the-scenes spaces will be open, and we'll have docents and museum staff available. A staff member from Ace Beverage will pour and talk about the wines and we will have light refreshments. We're looking forward to it!

  6. Enjoy rare views of behind-the-scenes spaces in historic Anderson House (a Beaux Arts mansion on Embassy Row), featuring the secret staircase and kitchen, and wine tasting in the garden (weather permitting). Wines featured will be whites perfect for summer. Light refreshments will be served. Wines provided by Ace Beverage.

  7. It wouldn't make sense to me. If Antonio can bring ribs, or brisket, or both, I WANT! Or jparrott's ham. Or any of the many other great meat dishes I've had at previous picnics. I don't think there's any need to limit the proteins to one pig - we've had some pretty big turnouts in the past - and, from my end at least, no desire to restrict the workouts my taste buds are going to get.

A variety of sauces, however, would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, we'll be using a caja china to roast the pig. If anybody wants to make marshmallows we can toast them over the hot coals while the pig cooks

I'd be happy to make marshmallows. If I get adventurous I can try making graham crackers for s'mores too.

  8. Celebrate Valentine's Day in style at Anderson House, a Gilded Age mansion on Embassy Row. On February 11th, this historic house museum will host an after-hours sparkling wine tasting featuring a dessert bar and an exhibit of Larz and Isabel Andersons' Valentines. Guest must be at least 21 to participate in the wine tasting. Anderson House is a short walk from the Dupont Circle metro stop. Fee: $15 for adults. 9. Hello, I'm Jenna and I've been on the board for a while now, but I've never posted before. My husband (chaofun) and I are very into food and wine, especially local and sustainable foods. I enjoy baking, gardening and entertaining, and I'm trying to learn more about home cheese-making.

I look forward to getting more involved with the board!
