  5. Next month, the D.C. cooking school CulinAerie is running a two day advanced cooking class for people looking to significantly improve their cooking skills. Now, CulinAerie runs cooking classes all the time that aren't advertised here, but I bring this class up because I will be attending the class to write about the experience for D.C. Foodies. So we're trying to get the word out about the July 25 and 26 class to help ensure a good turnout. A preview post ran on our Web site today, www.dcfoodies.com, and additional information is available on CulinAerie's Web site, www.culinaerie.com.

  6. Looking for suggestions in DC north of downtown, or close in MD. Low ambient noise levels are important because one of the parties has a hearing impairment. Thanks

Palena in Cleveland Park should fit the bill. It's a fairly quite, romantic place most of the time, and the bar has a pretty decent beer selection (the bartender Scott worked at Lost Dog in Arlington for years and is pretty knowledgable about beer). Central and CityZen (neither of which are north of downtown) also have decent beer selections and are quite (sometimes) and romantic (I suppose). The problem is most of the restaurants and bars in the DC area that have a good beer selection aren't exactly quiet and romantic, which shows that there's a niche to fill. The New York Times had an interesting article on restaurants waking up to the importance of quality craft beers and imports that touched on this subject a little.

  7. Does anyone know if any liquor stores in the D.C. area carry St. Germain liquors? The company's website brings you to liquor stores in NY for U.S. availability. Thanks!

I bought a bottle a couple weeks ago at Schneider's on Capital Hill. I'll also stick in a shameless plug for my latest cocktail post (The Darby Flower) at www.dcfoodies.com, which includes elderflower cordial.
