We will be celebrating a friend's birthday with a trip to NYC. Unfortunately, her birthday is January 1, and although we have afternoon plans, I am stumped about dinner. Can any one recommend a restaurant that is likely to be open that night? We'll be staying in the midtown, upper East side area. Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will try the Acacia Bistro very soon. But don't give up on our Van Ness restaurants completely--I enjoy the lunch buffet at Indian Ocean, and have had good pizza delivered from Italian Pizza Kitchen.
