  1. I know I am super-late on this one, but I would love to come. And since my husband, Kamau has FINALLY moved home from living in Florida, he will come too. Yay!!! :D

WIth regard to what we will bring, I am not sure yet. I want to bake something, but I also want to contribute to the entrees since we don't have very many. I'll continue to consult the list and I'll choose based on that.

  2. Is anyone going to this? I really, really want to go but I am not thrilled by the prospect of going all by myself.

    Interested?

    TOMATO FESTIVAL

Spend a relaxing afternoon in the country, sample over 40 varieties of heirloom tomatoes, wines from top VA & MD wineries, cheese, olive oil imported from Greece and other delicious gourmet items. This event will feature the best restaurants & celebrated chefs from Maryland, DC, and VA. Meet the chefs, play croquet & horseshoes, bring a blanket & stay awhile. This is a child friendly event and will include hay rides, farm tours, music, baby goats for petting and much, much more!

Admission includes all restaurant tomato creations & vendor samples, a huge variety of heirloom tomato samples, wine & cheese tastings, hay rides, and farm tours.

    Tickets are $50.

  3. I'll be there. Have gone every year for the past 6 years or so. I never miss it.

Have you been assigned your volunteer task yet? Would love to introduce myself to a fellow DRer if I have the chance.

Yes, we will be Table Monitors. Which probably means we'll be wondering aroung helping doing random things at the tables. But definitely look for us. We're both African American and short (5'3" -- though my husband swears that he is 5'5".) We will both be wearing khakis and white shirts. I have short curly hair with a lot of gray around the front. That all should make us pretty easy to spot.

  4. Count me in!!

And luckily, my husband Kamau is in town this week, visiting me from Florida. This is twice in a row now that the picnic fell on a weekend that he was in town. What lucky ducks are we!!!!

I will bring a vegetarian pasta salad (for all the non-pig eaters.).. ...and of course my Dr.com T-shirt circa 2006. (So excited that I will get to wear it again!!) Can't wait to see you all again!!

    Kmango (+1?)

    eroica (+1)

One week out, and only 10 sign ups? Come on people, I know we can do better than that. The menu that Sudhir has put together is exactly what's needed on hump day in order to get through the rest of the week.

    Count me in!!

I haven't been to a DR event since the picnic, so I am looking forward to reuniting with you!

  6. I will be volunteering at this event tonight. I'll bew there from 8-11.

I am assigned to assist a group of chefs on the first floor.

If you come to the event, look for me. I am wearing black pants and a black wrap shirt.

I have big curly hair with a lot of gray strands in the front. I'll probably have on a black sparkly headband thing.

I would love to see some DRers there tonight.

    Create a great day!! :-)

  7. Then I guess this is a good time to start soliciting volunteers for the November date!

Monday, November 16th, 5p-8p. RSVP here or via PM. I will optimistically say "first 10 requests get the slots", in the hopes that we can easily fill out the spots like we did earlier in the year.

I can come help! I have never done this before, but I love the idea of hanging out with some Rockwellians! I'll read some earlier posts to get the jist of what the instructions are....

  8. My husband is coming from Florida to visit me this weekend. Rasika is his absolutely favorite restaurant. But because of RW, it is all booked up. If anyone has a reservation there between Friday lunchtime through Monday lunchtime (his flight leaves Monday evening) and is unable to make your reservation, please, please PM me. I would be so eternally grateful.

    Peace & Blessings,

  9. Nope, I was thinking opening day since it's a Friday. Unless people would be up for a weekend lunch gathering, which might work too. Cheaper matinee as well.

Good point about the matinee prices. (Save enough $2 hear and there and it starts to add up......) I vote for a Saturday matinee and then lunch afterwards. It is showing at 12:45 at Gallery Place, 11:15, 1:15, and 2:15 in Georgetown, 1:30 at Mazza Gallery, and 1:20 at Potomac Yard.

  10. I am headed there tonight for a movie. Is there any place near there (within 3-4 blocks) that I should check out for dinner? I did see an older thread about American City Diner. They were less than favorable. I wonder if the place still sucks for anything other than greasy post-drinking food..... Any other places in the area that I should consider?
