Wellll... I went to the Fairfax branch once for lunch with my husband. The place looked as if it has been in a tornado, it was really dirty/messy inside... but we just assumed we had walked in at the end of a rush.
The food? It tasted great going down (one of us had a simple omelet, and the other had a chicken finger sandwich), but, we were both ill afterwards. Was it bad grease? Who knows. I just know that I was in and out of the loo for two days afterwards. And we have never gone back.
On a positive note, a friend of mine loves their bagels!

Adding my faves... please don't flame me... I live AND work in Virginia, so don't get to D.C. as often as I would like:
Firefly
Pizza Paradiso (Georgetown location)
Rosa Mexicano (for guac and margaritas only)
Tabard Inn (brunch - it's all about the donuts)
2 Amy's
Busboys & Poets
Arties
Carlysle
Moby Dicks House of Kabob

I really enjoy the Tabard Inn for brunch - sounds as if you missed the delicious donuts, though! Yes... it can feel like carb-loading to eat both the delicious bread basked AND the donut appetizer... but sometimes you just have to splurge. Yum.

I work right in the Tyson's area, so have been there a few times. Had a great 'summer salad' there recently, with tons of fresh veggies and corn chopped up with a vinaigrette. Love the wine list - lots of interesting wine by the glass. I have had some really good meals there, and a few that weren't so good (like the goat cheese/tomato sandwich served on really really oily foccacia, the one time). So I think it's inconsistent, mostly. By the way... I never understood why they offered that goat cheese/tomato sandwich in the dead of winter... when they claimed to only offer vegetables when they were in season.
On a side note, I actually had a waiter warn me against the Cuban sandwich.
Don't know if it's still offered, but I DID have a fabulous brunch there, with my family... so I would recommend that.
It definitely seems like business hasn't been great - there are always tables to be had without a wait.
