  1. I normally let places settle in before trying them but with RW we wanted to avoid the crowds.  We went on tuesday and had the bibb salad, deviled eggs, crab cake as an app and hanger steaks.  Everything was spot on.  The crab cake was outstanding so any previous issues have been resolved.  The service was well timed and James who assisted with the wine service was very helpful.

Very impressed given they've only been open a few weeks.  The only thing I would add is that I agree with the suggestion that there needs to be some "safer" selections for the less adventurous diners.

  2. Tried the new menu last night with friends.

Started with some drinks at the bar and I enjoyed the Corpse Reviver No. 2 which was very refreshing. Someone else had the The Misfit Toy and liked it. The truffle oil popcorn seemed was stale.

At the table the group started with the Mac and Cheese and the Tuna Tartare both were good.

Next we split a pasta special of short rib ravioli with shrimp in a tomato coulis. This was the highlight of the evening.

Entrees were the Grilled Tuna Loin, Colorado Lamb Loin, veal chop special and Meat & Potatoes. The off the menu veal chop was the best of the group. I order the meat and potatoe and the steak while cooked correctly to med-rare lacked flavor.

We order a dessert to share - Chocolate Layer Cake - this was too dry and was not finished. The server asked why and replaced it with the Pineapple-Caramel Éclair which was outstanding.

They have not dumbed down the wine list which I feel is overpriced and hard to find value.

Before I return I'll call to see if they have the short rib pasta special. That alone is worth a return trip and provides hope that the seasonal menu will work at 2941.

  3. Last night our group stuck to appetizers of cheese, charcuterie, and shell fish. The Pate De Campagne marmalade is outstanding and was the highlight of our visit and worth a return trip by itself. The cheese were served at the correct temperature which is a plus. The drafts beers were cold and tasty. Service had some slow moments but I wonder if it was our location as we were upstairs in the trophy room.

  4. Do you have a specific date and time of day?

Restaurants LOVE threads like this, and I made it a separate thread so they can take note and contact you. With 85 people (or even 50 people), you'd probably be able to close off quite a few restaurants and have them all to yourselves - in fact, with most places, that's the way it's going to be.

Are there any other specifics you can offer? The more detail you give, the better.

I recently held my wife's 40th birthday party at Restaurant 3. They did a great job.

  5. I had a great roast beef and cheddar sandwich with horseradish mayo the other day from Earl's. I walked past it so many times without stopping in, and now I know better. It's a high-quality operation and leagues beyond what typical sandwich chains can give you.

I do wonder what's up with that strip next to Earl's. There's not a lot of adjoining retail there along Wilson, in what you'd think would be a highly desirable retail location.

1st time visit to Earl's today. Enjoyed the Monty. Med-Rare roast beef with BBQ and mayo. Damn good sandwich. I'll be back.

  6. Just back from another stellar lunch at INOX. With all respect to the burgers that garner lots of attention on this board (Palena. Central. Hellburger). as well as my own personal downtown fave (The Source), INOX's patty melt is IMO the tastiest and most decadent burger being served in the DC region. The 3 Johns were all buzzing about today and I'm looking forward to returning soon for dinner.

After reading hmmboy's post on the INOX's patty melt I made sure to stop in and check it out. This burger is simple amazing. It is rich and well balanced. Perfect medium rare. It was a thing of beauty. I enjoyed the tasting menu a few months ago and this patty ranked up there. In fact, the should serve mini patty melts as an amuse.

  7. The McCormick's is a takeoff (or, in Waitman's opinion, an improvement) on the retail spice blend that you can buy at Schwartz's in Montreal. The "steak and beef" one is really good on steaks, but the "poultry" blend is even better on chicken.

what wine goes best with the McCormick mix? if only there was a wine shop in court house to ask these questions.....

  8. Took the family and the environment is perfect for two kids 4 and 6. They loved being able to color on the paper table cloth.

I had the Charcuterie and the wedge salad. My wife had the pasta bolognese. Our food was good but not great. I have probably been spoiled by the butcher board at Bernie's. I hope that the menu evolves.

The BISHOP'S SÉLECTION 2006 CÖTES DU RHÔNE VILLAGES was a great value for $26.

Overall the price was right and it is a nice addition to the neighborhood and my kids felt welcome.

  9. I've been to Bernie's twice as its in the neighborhood. Had the moules frites, wings, and the pastrami. The previous post on the pastrami sandwich is dead on. Its been almost two days and when I think about the smoky flavor my mouth waters.

The first trip was at 5pm with my kids and they were very accommodating, mentioned that they would consider alternative requests if I asked but I ordered from the menu as my kids enjoy wings and fries.

Second trip went solo, I ate at the bar Saturday around 3pm. Not sure why they wanted a credit card to start a tab when there were only five of us at the bar. I wonder if they got burned during the NBA finals and starting asking for credit cards.

    Roxanne is always friendly.

Looking forward to my next trip.
