What kind of food? If you like Japanese, you can't go wrong with any of the places of the Totto empire: Yakitori Totto, Soba Totto, Aburiya Kinnosuke (izakaya), and Hide Chan (ramen) are all in Midtown.
For Western fare, I'd recommend the Bar Room at the Modern or The Breslin.
I haven't found anywhere I like much in the heart of Midtown, but if you're near Grand Central, I like the Grand Central Oyster Bar. A little south of there in Murray Hill are Artisanal (32nd and Park) and the original Les Halles (29th and Park). All three places are fun, not too pricey, and open on Monday. Les Halles actually has half-priced wines.
Thank you both, I like pretty much anything. Has anyone been to Nuela?

Let me know if you have any questions!
How about a rec for a Monday night dinner in midtown Manhattan? Not a break-the-bank kind of place, but someplace fun. And open on a Monday night.

Shall I describe to you in lurid detail how traditional foie gras d'oie is made in Alsace?
Yes please!

which market and which vendor... thanks!
Middleburg Creamery, Columbia Pike, sorry for the delay, I don't read this thread often.

G Street Food has a pretty good one. Their pickles have a bit of spice.

Yesterday, breakfast was Mocha Toffee Crunch ice cream from the farmer's market.

This week's special pizza is inspired by Chris Bianco - how could I not? White Pizza with Red Onion, Rosemary, Pistachios, and Parmesan ($10)
!! I saw that after I had already ordered. I knew I should have just gotten 2 pizzas.
And thanks to Pupatella for making their arancino without the fake meat - so much better.

I'm in, and I'm drinking.

I am def interested in August, especially if anyone goes EARLY! I get off at 3 on Fridays until Labor Day. I work downtown, would be happy to make a couple suggestions next week.

I had this unfortunate experience I think about a year ago. I got a salad from Brown Bag on 818 18th Street NW. I did not notice an off taste while eating, but for a week afterward I tasted pine. It was not pleasant.

I bought some sour cherries today that will be swimming in bourbon tomorrow.
I pitted a basket of cherries yesterday and they are swimming now. I also did a smaller batch with just the pits to see how it will turn out. All this talk of cherry pits...

Sour cherries and bourbon in a jar. Let sit for as long as you can stand it. Drink the beautiful rosy bourbon straight and the cherries make a great snack. Sometimes I even pit the cherries. A couple of years ago I researched some recipes that called for bourbon, lemon zest, various spices. Not worth it and the extra stuff just takes away from the cherry-ness.

Thank you durwoodx. I ran down there just to look and it smelled to high heaven. Bad bad bad.

Has anyone had the giant soft pretzel served in a pizza box? If so, where did you get it?

Took a visitor from Australia Friday night - his comment: the best burger he has had in America.

Softshell sliders - delicious. But at $13 for 1 crab (two sliders) expensive!

Note on the arancino - the menu says "stuffed with mozzarella, peas & beef (or no beef)". No beef, to me, means no beef - and no fake beef. I ordered one with no beef, and when I cut into it, beef. Or rather fake beef, that tastes like bad sweet bacon. I thought I was ordering "stuffed with mozzarella & peas".
Pupatella, can you clarify on the menu? I have heard of this same issue when you order them at the cart.

Did anyone eat there yesterday? Walked by at 1:30 and there was a line out the door.
