  1. Ditto. My one lunch there was bad enough to know that I'm never going back. A truly miserable excuse for a tuna staek sandwich and absolutely horrendous sweet potato fries.

Ditto, and ditto. There is no similarity between current-Nicaro and former-Nicaro. My mussels at lunch last week were over-lemoned so much as to make the entire dish sour. The bread they currently have is not good. My friend's tuna burger severely gloppy with mayo. It is rather unfortunate Silver Spring has lost a finer dining option, and overall tasty spot.

  2. Walked by tonight - there's a sign on the door that says that the restaurant is closed for two weeks for renovations. At this point, I'm inclined to say that rumors of Nicaro's demise are exaggerated.

Seems here int he latest on Nicaro's Chef Pedro's next steps...

Silver Spring Singular - Nicaro, Luau Hut

While Chef Pedro is opening a new place, still no word on what exactly happens with Nicaro.

  3. Dined at 2 Amy's Sat night and once again this place proved why it is one of my favorite places to eat. I can't refute complaints read here and elsewhere about the lack of ambiance, the Romper Room type atmosphere that pervades at times, the cacaphonous noise level, and the uneven pacing of meals. But I find those things matter little when I am eating transcendent fresh buffalo burrata and simple yet perfect margarherita pizza, washed down with a cold Moretti. This place is awesome and i'll never stop coming back.

I, too, have found the food delivered to your table without appetizer-then-pizza pacing. I always make sure to order drinks, then apps, then pizza, or I get everything all at once. I'm sure they do this for quick table turnover. Still, one of my favorite places to eat (even with a 20+ minute wait at 10pm on a Friday).

  4. Just stopped by today, still enjoying their Fish Tacos + their Aquas.

I stopped into Taqueria today as well, and enjoyed my pineapple agua fresca. However, I was less than thrilled with my chicken taco. If my memory serves me correctly, they used to put cilantro and onion on their chicken tacos. Today, it was only greasy chicken on the corn tortillas and nothing else. I haven't been there in a few months, but the chicken seemed greasier and lacking in flavor today. Fortunately, their green salsa made up for the lack in flavor.

  5. Went to the General Store last night. I am not sure what the fuss is about. I didn't think the fried chicken had much flavor and mine was a little bit dried out. The collard greens were good as was the corn bread but not enough to make a return visit a must. My husband had the fish tacos though, and he was quite pleased. We had cupcakes for dessert and I found it strange that it was mandatory to have two for $5.00 rather than an option for just one. I will say the the cake was delicious, while the frosting was a little heavy and sweet. All in all I was a little disapointed.

I, too, think the frosting on the cupcakes are very sweet, especially the vanilla/buttermilk ones. The frosting seems to overwhelm (in both amount and sweetness) the fairly nice, basic and moist cake underneath. The chocolate ganache seems less sweet than the buttermilk/vanilla option.

  6. My guess is probably not, as this past weekend's trip to the Tyson's WF carried only about six remaining pints in the freezer section, with the pint I purchased date stamped: 4/7/09. Any updates?

*Extreme* long-time lurker feeling the need to post due to excitement over the Silver Spring Moorenkos seemiingly open. While stopping by Mayorga last evening, Moorenkos had all the lights on (including outside neon sign), tables set up, workers hustling about, and the board with flavors written up. Saw one of the workers locking the door at 9pm.
