  1. Glad to see you posting, Garrett!

Folks, if you're fascinated by the history of prohibition and its lasting monuments (tangible and otherwise) on the DC scene, Garrett is your go-to guy, and his book is a fascinating read.

(I don't think the Cogswell fountain is that hideous, but man, talk about a useless gift...)

    Definitely pick up the book!

    My link

  2. Found the sugar free stuff at Rodman's. I imagine if you ask nicely you can buy a case. I had Frutta mango and passionfruit concentrates, so I added a splash of both of those the way Vita Coco does. Yum.

Delish! and sooooo good for a hangover!

  3. Stop by between 3 and 5 to fill out an application and a quick interview. Part time and Full time server positions available. Starting Sunday Brunch on April 4th and prefer Sunday availability for all applicants.

You need to be passionate about making sure your guests have a good time. Crazy, fast paced, passionate. Must be a self starter.

  4. Dino is closed today due to the snow. We are planning to open tomorrow at 5:30.

Stay safe & warm! I recommend Rowan Creek Burbon for the latter. May not help with the former if you are going out and about!

Or Hot Cocoa with Saffron King Black Cardamom Tincture and Neisson Rhum Agricole Eleve' Sous Bois with a grate of nutmeg and whipped cream...

  5. Freaky timing. I just finished reading your name in The List Are You On It, then flipped over here to see your post.

"...And, mixologist Scott Palmer of Woodley Park's Dino will be in mixing up his signature cocktails for the fall season. All on Dishing It Out, Sunday, October 11, live at 11:00 a.m."

I hope you tell the story of that latest beverage. :P

Will do! I need to let Nycci know that we're in Cleveland Park though :(

  6. We've since returned twice with the Bimbapino and Dino's has always been great with him. They've expanded the children's menu to include fried calamari and a nice grilled cheese sandwich (with real cheese and sliced Italian bread) that was another hit with my son. Since he can still sit in a high chair, I can't say whether or not they have boosters.

    Boosters are available!

  7. Happy hour..Stopped by last night spontaneously as my son called to say he was working till 8 and my wife was out of town.

I was one of 3 patrons in the bar area. Where is everyone else. There was a ton of food on the bar including 3 bowls of olives, pickled green tomatoes, salami, pates and more.

Great selection of wines by the glass at 25% off in both small and large pours. Started off with a great reisling then a nice Vernaccia(I think, Dean feel free to correct me).

Next time this confluence of my family all being out occurs I will shout out to this board to see if I can get a crowd here, or at least a few others. The bar at Dino is a gem and it certainly deserves a bigger crowd.

Actually poured you the 2007 Moncaro Verdicchio Castelli dei Jesi Verde Ca Ruptae. Glad you enjoyed the wine and the Happy Hour spread! Hope to see you again soon!

  8. Loving both the Littorai Vin Gris of Pinot Noir Anderson Valley 2008 and the Peter Solva “de Silva” Lagrein Rose Alto Adige 2007 right now. At home, I've been drinking the Austrian Tegernseerhof Zweigelt Rosé 2008 which is a great value wine.

  9. The Chul Pan is on the menu on the back side att he bottom if I recall. You just order your meats and cephlapods (pork belly, squid, baby squid, octopus all good and differently chewy). When you are about half way thru the chul pan, ask for fried rice and they will bring over veggies, garlic, onion, seaweed, rice and make a mush out of it all. A the rice cooks, it crisps on the bottom until you want to lick the pan to gett he last crumbs even if it is searingly heated!

I'd be more scared of the soju!

    Yes, beware the soju!

  10. Scott and I stopped by for a post Empson Brunello/Barolo tasting repast. After 9 Montalcino wines and 30 Barolo/Barbaresco?Barbera and Dolcetto, we needed booze and food. Pete was there and we chatted between his delivering our food...he is a pretty good runner except he is a little chatty :P

We had a couple of Gina's new cocktails, Scott having something with gin and I had the Scorched Milk cocktail which was pretty damned good. The charcuterie plate consisted of an array of house cured sausages and coppa and lonza. My usual complaint about house made sausages is when they don't deliver the flavor of a well made artisinal example. Pete's stuff was different and had a lot of flavor and complexity. He admitted that his drying room doesn't work well in the summer so go now for this treat. The "Chicago Dogs" were good if a little small. We got two on our order and I would ahve liked the same amount of meat in a single dog. The topping were too frou frou for a real Chicago dog, but the result was good. There were potato things that I liked less than Scott did, but the aioli was superb. The braised meat short ribs were very rich and good. All of the food was on the heavy side, all of it inventive and all of it quite tasty to really great.

I had the "Glimpse of Summer" cocktail with Plymouth Gin and Gina's Homemade Pickled Wax Beans. Jump at anything with Gina's Pickles, They ROCK!

The Scorched Milk that Dean had was one of the best cocktails I've had so far in 2009.

My fave was the braised oxtail "tots". Peter has a great imagination and puts it to good use. They were ridiculously indulgent!
