  1. This ruling does not only apply to NY and MI, it provides president to negate all such shipping laws. From what I have been told by an attorney who is involved with the case (winning side), all aspects of discrimination against out-of-state wineries, and possibly retailers, are null-and-void. That means that the portion of the new Texas law allowing direct shipping, that puts limits on the amount wine that can be imported in to the state is not legally binding. If Virginia only allows one case per month to be delivered from either an in-state or out-of-state winery than that will stand.

As for Maryland, it was Glendening's anti-alcohol zeal that moved the legislature to make it a felony to ship into the state. He is no where to be found, so there could be a possibility that the law can be changed.

  2. Friday, a sleave of Town House crackers and a couple of beers.

Saturday Geppetto's catered a wine tasting event at the Australian Embassy. No pizza to be found but their passed snacks were surprisingly good. However, the wine was the star of the night, especially Torbreck's Run Rig, and Colonial Estate's Exile.

Sunday was Bombay Curry Company for some Butter Chicken.

  3. I have never felt like I did not fit in at the Prime Rib (I am in my mid 30's). Like Mark, I believe that the Prime Rib is as good as it gets. I also put in a vote for their crab cake being the best around. The only problem I have is with the 70's era wine service. It makes me wonder if the small stems they use are antiques that they are proud to display.

  5. I used to go to the Research Cafe a couple of times a week. However, that was a number of years ago, and I know that it has since changed owners. I never had a sandwich that I did not like. My favorites were the Italian Cold Cut (they toast them), and the Meatball Sub which was made with homemade meatballs. I also remember having the club several times, and it was standard fare, not the monstrosity that you described.

  6. I would third or fourth Cafe Monti. Nothing pretentious about it, just good food. Also second Mediterranean Cafe. If you are on Seminary, just hop over to King St. and try Atlantis for good (not great) pizza, and subs.

I would avoid Mango Mikes like the plague, the food is mostly fried, and not very well at that. The few times I had tried it, I had the feeling that they were hoping that they would be able to expand this into a large chain.
