Maruha Japanese Steakhouse

We went to this restaurant recently for a weekday lunch with a large party.

It's in one of Columbia's village centers, in what used to be a Blockbuster video store. They've converted the space nicely, so that there is a decent-looking dining area with large koi pond, and a sushi bar. Then in the back, they have four teppanyaki tables.

The service was very good, and the foods cooked in front of us was satisfying, but nothing spectacular. My mom had tempura which was good.

I had a small sushi/sashimi plate, and the sashimi (just salmon and tuna) was excellent, melt-in-your-mouth quality. The roll that came with it was a California roll, loose but tasty.

Anybody else try this place out? I don't know how long it will last--it hasn't looked very busy when I've peeked in there.
