Going back to Peru, partly for the food and partly because there's so much to see. In Lima, we're going back to Astrid y Gaston. On this trip, we fly to Cusco the next day. On day 3, we tour the Sacred Valley. On day 4, we go to Machu Pichu but we're staying in Agua Caliente. On day 5, we return to Cusco to eat at Gaston Acurio's Chi Cha. On day 6, we fly home. I love Peruvian food, from cebiche, tiradito, tamales, causas, to cuy. Recs anywhere along the way would be appreciated. In my opinion, if there's one place to eat in Lima, it's Acurio's La Mar but they don't serve dinner and we're not in Lima in time for lunch on this trip. Also a trip to the central market in Lima with Chinatown next door is fun for people who like markets.

Off to Brazil at the end of this month for Carnival. Will be visiting Sao Paolo, Rio, Florianapolis, and Iguazu. Who's been? Any recommendations? Particularly for Rio.

Because Portugal requested to modify the agreement made on May 4, 1493 via the Treaty of Tordesillas on June 7, 1494. That's it. That's the only reason why. If Portugal hadn't asked the Pope to modify the 1493 agreement (the Treaty of Tordesillas (1494) moved things 270 leagues to the west), Brazil - the easternmost country in South America, and as-yet undiscovered - would be a Spanish-speaking country.

So I'm heading down to Medellin next weekend for a bachelor party, and besides trying my hardest to stay out of trouble, I was just put in charge of finding places to eat. I did a very brief search, and beyond a No Reservations episode in Columbia, I haven't been able to find too many reliable sources. Anyone been? If all else fails, there's always Hard Rock. Actually, I'll probably try to avoid anything in Columbia having to do with rock...
