Red, White, and Bleu, Falls Church

NQD and I just stopped in to Red, White and Bleu, a new wine & cheese shop that opened Thursday night at 127 S. Washington Street, just south of Broad Street in Falls Church.

The shop is a decent size, but the selection is small. 18 cheeses currently, with hopes to double that soon. Mostly American, some European. I have a crappy memory for names, but there's some nice stuff there. There's also a similarly sized collection of beers, also mostly American (some cross-over, too - beers from Rogue Brewery and cheese from Rogue Creamery). The "stated theme" of the wine collection was examples of what's best from each region. I don't know enough to know if that was reflected in what's in the racks. There's also a nice $10 table. They do tastings on weekends; today there were five bottles of summer rose. And then a few miscellaneous odds and ends on the shelves (oils, vinegar, Mexican chocolate, etc.).

A nice little shop, clearly with room to grow and hopes to do just that. Very enthusiastic and eager owners. Definitely worth checking out, and since we're local, we'll be lending our support.

Not much on the website yet: http://www.redwhiteandbleu.com/

I should come here more often. This evening I went to buy a bottle of wine, and had the pleasure of running into James, his lovely wife (and James Beard nominee) Heather. Then, Barton Seaver (and his lovely wife Carrie Anne), who was signing copies of his book, "For Cod and Country: Simple, Delicious, Sustainable Cooking (Sterling Epicure, 2011)."

And, as of yesterday, Barton's book cracked the Amazon Top 50 - in all categories, not just cookbooks (per Barton, it was one behind Gwyneth Paltrow, and one ahead of Shania Twain). Congratulations!

Cheers,

Rocks

P.S. Wikipedia entry here - can I have your publicist? B)
