  1. I am sorry I started this. I am not a snob nor an elitist and don't wear a suit and tie to work(we're not that formal). But I do believe in this just like I give my teenage sons guidance on what to wear when we go out as a family. I.E. a polo shirt is mostly acceptable and a whole lot better then their undershirt with blood and sweat stains from lacrosse or hockey. I give them guidance that I really don't want or need to see their boxers or their girlfriends thong. I would expect have expected most on this list to share these opinions as they do affect the dining experience. But maybe not.

  2. The funny thing is most of this list would come down hard on an establishment that served a great wine in a cocktail glass. Dress, surrounding, sound, lights, are all part of the dining experience.

And the last time I went to a DR happy hour, I didnt see any torn jean or T-Shirts that folks here seem to now think is the norm.

  3. So are you saying Barack Obama is a schmuck because he wore a suit at Equinox and Citronelle? Just curious.

Maybe I should show up in a tank tap, cut of shorts and a pair of crocs!! And drink Dom from the bottle!!

  4. I like t-shirts as well but do they really have a place for mid to high end dining. Yes if you are going to the Bar at Matchbox but no if you are going to the Bar at proof. yes if you are dining at the Vienna Inn but no if you are dining at Komi or PS7.

  5. Had dinner at Zaytinya Saturday night and was amazed at how many people walk up in t-shirts looking pretty ratty. Most folks there dress well and those in T-Shirts appear to be the minority. This is not your college tail gate or your own backyard, come on folks..step up your game.

  6. Is it just me, or does Giuseppi's pizza lack salt in the crust? I'm always on the lookout for decent pie, and Giuseppi's looked like it would fit the bill, but something just tasted "off". I've come to think they don't put any salt in their dough. A shame. Still, pretty good pie despite the bland crust.

Its just you. Scott does a great and consistent job. I stay away from pizza but this is my teenage boys favorite.

  7. Another great meal at Dino last night. Dino has become a real favorite as we can BYOB and get treated well with great wine service. I started with 1/2 order of Duck pasta which was sublime and then followed with the Salmon entree which was perfect. The espresso pana Cotta was exceptional. The other 3 in our party all had great meals as well.

The only issue was the upstairs was about 20 degrees hotter then the downstairs. I thought for a moment my frieds wife was going to take her clothes off because she was that hot.

    Next time the downstairs!!

  8. I remember on a visit to San Francisco I went to this take out place that served just frites. They came in a paper cone. You could choose from something like 30 different mayo-based dips for them. They were greasy and salty and crispy and creamy and I drooled all over them.

Are there any places like this in DC? Is there any place I can just get some good Belgian-style frites?

Amsterdam falafel in Adams Morgan does a great job. If you have never been you owe yourself to get there at least once.

  9. Since my staff has been working hard to get a project done I am in charge of food delivery. (management has to do something usefull)

We have had pizza and burritos.. Chinese would be good.

Any recommendations for a place that would deliver to Tomas Circle(16th and M NW)

    Thanks

    and have a great holiday

  10. Our family went here last night and all 4 of us were not impressed. My sons had burgers which were thin(their words) and charred. My wife had a NY strip that was thinly cut and I had broiled shrimp which was plain. Nothing jumped out on the menu. We only went here because we were picking up my son from the airport. We live in Rockville and will stick to Addies, or Garret Park Bistro both of which are neighborhood spots.

I wasn't sure what Mel Merie Grille wanted to be and not sure they suceeded either.
