I thought is by the folks at Food, Wine & Co.?

Well, there is no tasting menu this week, due to how quiet Labor Day Weekend is shaping up, in Bethesda at least. The tasting menu will return next weekend with a shorter format. It seems a lot of folks think 4 courses, even if they are designed as a tasting, is too much food, so they shy away from tasting menus as a whole. So starting next week we will be doing a 3 course menu for $40 with a fourth course option. The DR.com discount will be $10 off, so $30. Seems like a deal. I will donate $5 per guest to the Yellow Ribbon Fund. (last weeks haul was $40 thanks to the Dr.com party of 4 who's moniker i do not know, thank you)
This week I am running a special risotto with some awesome hedgehog and Black trumpet mushrooms I got from a forager , for what that's worth.
As a side note, if you are in town, go out to eat at your favorite restaurant. it definitely doesn't need to be Grapeseed, but this is looking to be a hideously slow weekend and you favorite place could probably use your support. (unless it is part of that shit show they call 14th St. They don't need your help)

Hey all Tasting Menus are back and we are still donating a portion of your dinners to the Yellow Ribbon Fund. Last week I wrote a check to YRF for $480 mostly due to our Restaurant week program, $50 from LauraB, and another tiny fraction to other DR.com people ($20). Good show overall. Just to recap I will give $10 for every DR.com person who gets the Tasting Menu each weekend, after giving you $15 off the meal to start with.
here's this weeks menu . please mention your affiliation when you call for a reservation. (Normally $55, $40 for you)
Breakfast for dinner
Amuse Bouche
Korean Pancake with Shrimp and Diakon Kimchee (my version of Sae woo jeon if you will)
Bacon and Eggs, with a Crabcake
Chicken and Waffles
dessert choice

And I have word from a web person, who is doing a free update, that all the offensive stuff will be gone soon. I still don't think that Steve Jobs died for my sins and I should pay extra for his toys, but I realize his Koolaid was strong and plentiful and a.lot of people drank it.
if anyone is offended by the website going forward, the phone number here is 301-986-9592. I would be happy to give you any info from the website and more. Remember when that was the only option?

It was truly wonderful meeting LauraB and her husband last night, they seemed to enjoy their meal, even when their "first day back on the floor, completely overwhelmed" waitress ( we should send her back to the breeding she's been doing for 7 years) forgot their Dr.com discount. Laura, in a totally class move, said to just send the discount to the Yellow Ribbon Fund. Fantastic. Good Show, LauraB. $50 bucks for YRF
Great to meet you and Thanks for supporting Grapeseed and the Yellow Ribbon Fund.
I look forward to more DR folks taking advantage of our discount / donation programs on our Tasting Menus on the weekends AND during our Restaurant Week July 29-August 4th when a portion of all our sales will go to the YRF as well. i look forward to turning over a big donation on everyone's behalf.
Cheers, lauraB.

We will still do the wine pairings for 1/2 price as well.

The first cookbooks I ever owned were the "Yan can Cook", spiral bound ones that came with the wok set I bought after watching his show as a sophomore in college.

Pretty interesting that the restaurant already Kept the Tips, and paid salaries, yet when they banned tipping they jacked the prices 15%.
Also, the customer in the article said she was happy with the policy BUT if service was bad she would want the old system back
I think a no tipping world would be great, but prices would go up and everyone would have to take the bad with the good.

Thanks for the kind words MC. Thanks to everyone for your support with these menus. It is much more satisfying to do them for a bunch of people than a few.
News Blast - Good news. We have joined a Movement. "Meatless Mondays" at Grapeseed will start April 1st. We will be having preview Veggie dishes tonight and they will be **1/2 price all night**. For this movement we will be ADDING dishes to our regular Meaty menu so Carnivores will still be happy. So visit us this or any Monday, get your Veggie on and even eat for half price this week.
For Planning's sake I will be extending the half price deal to DR.com people next Monday as well. I will be looking for feedback, so opinions will be asked for. This is the kind of thing that happens when i am stuck at home and my wife gives me "Healthy " Food

Don wrote in March 2012 on Dcdining.com that Bayou Bakery has one of the best pimento Cheese sandwiches in the area.
Does anyone know if this is still the case. And I mean, I am sure Bayou Bakery's is still good but, are there any new contenders?
