Ledo's cheese pizza, green beans and left over home made gingerbread cookies. It's a Monday before the holidays.

Lion: How do you keep an lunch avacado from getting brown? Stupid question: If I roll an avocado in a tortilla with ham, will it turn brown if well wrapped in something like plastic wrap? My 5 yr old is part monkey as she loves avacado, mango, banannas...well, all the fruit.
Oh, I didn’t make an avocado roll yet, not sure yet if it’s good for him to eat at school. But perhaps it would spoil less in a small airtight container?

Hi,
How many are you cooking for?
Lunch is just the kid, dinner can vary from 2-4 adults as family is very close by. Additionally, there are different dietary restrictions and spice levels to consider.
My current cooking falls into two categories, Indian family recipes and go-to dishes from the past ten years. Frankly, adding the kid's lunch meals probably accelerated the feeling of needing to learn some new recipes or even another ethnic cuisine, like 'real' Italian, just for a change of pace.
NolaCaine, guess we're kind of in the same boat. My son is 4 1/2 and some of the more adventurous things I would like to prepare for him are limited by safety concerns, or eating cold food. My standard procedure is to try something out at dinner time and then work it into his lunch. Still, it feels like another year or two and a majority of these concerns will be over. He does like eating avocado rolls, but have been resisting going full bento box parenting! 😀

Oh, and now I am making school lunches...I cursed myself with that upthread brag.
I need to learn to make some new stuff! It's hard making school lunches and then to make a different dinner a couple of weeknights.

We visited NYC last weekend for our annual trek and stopped by a new places, one being the Heatonist at Chelsea Market. As a fan of the Youtube series, Hot Ones, it was fun to try a couple of the lower hot sauces at the counter.

Good question. Personally, I find Indian cuisine to be one that is generally underrated, though to be fair the standard of it can be pretty ordinary outside India and the UK. If you travel to India you can experience the tremendous diversity of the regional cuisines, from coastal areas like Kerala and Goa through to the more rugged dishes of northern India (Punjab etc) through to the quite different dishes in the south and indeed the northeast of the country e.g. Bengali dishes. The sheer variety is impressive and is particularly good at finding creative ways to showcase vegetables. Doubtless everyone has their own favourite cuisine outside of the mostly French and Japanese places that dominate fine dining these days, but Indian is mine. If I had to eat just one cuisine for the rest of my life I would choose Indian, even though I recognise that there are no Indian restaurants (yet) that have really broken into the upper echelons of fine dining.
Thank you for the informative talk. Sorry that I couldn't participate while it was ongoing but the questions and answers were very engaging.
There really is a diversity to Indian cuisine which is unknown in the western world. In previous posts, my argument has been that things don't really travel outside of the area and I think that is especially true for Indian cuisine.

And we still don't have any interesting non chain places to eat other than places at Lake Anne!

There is that element of the DC dining scene, where the power brokers frequent, restaurants have to bear the cost of association. It's a funny little dance, I guess in LA it is the same for Hollywood and in NYC for all stripes of celebrities, too.

My wife made some pesto pasta for our son's dinner tonight, while I finished the leftover curry chicken and rice. Oh, she also made a grape tomato balsamic vinaigrette side dish. Trying to decide if I should go the ice cream route for dessert or just finish the last Petit Pot Riz Au Lait?

@ RTC West there is a garage that has "free" parking, but you have to walk either thru the office lobby or around the exterior to get to the retail. On weekends, they sometimes have Valet in the surface lot across from SB and Cooper's Hawk.
BTW - Glory Days has the Impossible Burger as well, the closest location is at North Point Village Plaza and the parking is free and fairly plentiful.
Thanks for letting me know about Glory Days. Want to try the impossible burger and that's another location.

Scrambled eggs and green beans. Dessert, Trickling Spring Vanilla ice cream.

We only ate at the Counter once, though have been meaning to go since they got the Impossible Burger. Tried the Beyond burger at home and was pleasantly surprised.

Mosaic was already closed today at lunchtime. Sign in the door read location closed permanently.

New restaurant opening at RTC West....
BGR The Burger Joint to Open in RTC West Next Week by Fatimah Waseem, RestonNow.com
BGR and the Counter seem like the same place!
As a side, stopped by the Bike Lane's new home and enjoyed some of their beer and desserts.

We've enjoyed the risotto balls (regular) over the past few years with our son mainly at the Mosaic location. The sandwiches have been hit or miss.
Over expansion and bad financials does seem like it will shut down many places that do have the appearance of being successful.

Glad to hear they are adopting new strategies for handling openings in their evenings. Rose's has always been a high volume/high quality restaurant so being at full capacity is to their benefit.

It's sitting on my kitchen counter. I don't know when I'll actually install it.
That doesn't make me feel bad about still not setting up the water leak sensor for the past year! But had started the smart home process with some light switches and recessed led lighting last weekend.
Think will slowly start adding some smart home features this fall.

My 26 year old son is really into the whole beer thing. He manages a restaurant that specializes in it. He thinks Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA tastes like a combination of rail vodka and paint thinner!

Ring 2 on sale at QVC.com for $160 + $10 tax. There's a $5 off code "five4u" for QVC. I just got one.
How has the Ring 2 been Eric? Just started installing some smart switches in the house looking to get some monitoring equipment as the next step.

Ovechkin celebrated his birthday dinner here last night. 3 ducks for a party of 6.
That doesn't seem like enough, but haven't been in years.

I just got coffee from the new Starbucks next door to the expansion this morning. Again wow that's a ton of traffic going to be added the location.

Ayrshire farm chicken breast with spice rub cut into small pieces with Annie's organic honey mustard as a dipping sauce. Grape-seed oil sautéed spinach with sea salt. And Enlightened birthday cake bar for dessert. An overabundance of the honey mustard so that he could use his fork with the chicken pieces.
Of course this was our dinner, too!

One eats Cheerios and the other consents to eat wheat toast daily but otherwise, the struggle is real And, unfortunately, shrugging off obstinately fasting kids isn't an option as they are both off-the scale tiny. With our elder son, there was a period where he would only eat Chinese restaurant food. Our takeout place loooooooooves us and actually calls back to check if our order changes from the usual to make sure it wasn't in error.
Currently, my son's snack food are cheerios, too. My wife read the recent reports on Roundup being found in cheerios, so started getting organic brands at Mom's.

My kids chomp anything pickled, including okra. It was on their shopping request list for this week.
My son also likes anything pickled.. Amazing how many he will eat, currently likes the Talk of O' Texas mild ones.

I'm pretty sure her lunches won't be as impressively elaborate as this! When I had to pack her lunches at her in home daycare she ate a LOT of cheese sandwiches with cut up fruit (which she still loves).
These days things are being made in the toaster oven and would say it's just good healthy food! Salmon cooked in grapeseed oil and finished with Maldon Salt on a store bought slider bun with some honey mustard. Again baby broccoli with EVOO in the toaster oven which is left over from dinner. Pretty quick! 😊
