  1. More or less than Potbelly?

You know I wanted to like it more. The ingredients were good quality, but the bread was hard in different locations and different times of the day. And I love the kind of bread used for subs in Philadelphia's Little Italy!

I use to work in MD for several years, not to far from Gallo's Italian Grocery in District Heights, MD and my taste maybe be skewed towards that style of Italian subs. I think Gallo's had some of the best subs and sandwiches in the DC metro area.

  2. Experience was very nice, really enjoyed the early evening dinner before the rush. Interesting selection of Italian pop songs filled the room! We found the staff to be gracious, attentive and enthusiastic. The design of the dining room created a bridge between DC and Italy. When you visit, don't forget to look up. There are exquisite Murano glass sculptures. Definitely sit near the kitchen as others have noted, it's a grand view watching the entire restaurant, staff, and kitchen moving in concert.

    Budino, budino, budino.

(I think I need to go back and order just that at the bar, frequently, except GF says only on special occasions.)

Capesante. Scallops on top of yellow and black polenta. The polenta was creamy and delicious with the scallops and sauteed lobster mushrooms was a perfect combination.

Porcini. Had to clean the plate get every little bit.

Gianduja Semi Freddo is a hit for sure.

Overall, I think the evening's food was very good and if this is where Chef Donna is starting after the past few years of troubles, it's a good place to be. I hope the management team can keep everything running smoothly and let him shine in the kitchen.

Also, Galileo III without the Lab is good, because I think getting to that level again will take some time as the restaurant works and settles into a rhythm that only comes from time.

    Congratulations on the success!

  3. Well that's what the Dining Guides are for. If you put "Taylor Gourmet" in quotation marks in the Invision search it'll come up sooner, but the native search function is really notoriously bad.

I did a little research on the topic and came up with two possible avenues to approaching the issue using google maps to arrange either by city or neighborhood.

1>Making each restaurant a 'member' and using this Example

2> Google Spreadsheets Data/Maps API Example

Each one has a space for description that could be used to link to the relevant thread in the discussion group.

Sorry I'm not able to provide a full implementation solution at this time, October is a little bit busy.

  4. FWIW -- It's in the Multiple Locations dining guide. If you use Invision's search and type "Taylor" it doesn't come up until the third page. See here for other ideas on how best to search the forum. :(

(This message will self-destruct in 24 hours.)

Thanks for the tip on the Multiple locations guide and the google search. I did use Invision's search and type taylor. There must be a better way to do this short of a Don Rockwell website with geographical map and listings.

  5. Forgot to mention from my research on Trenton pizza last week, I read some place and this may not be true, that De Lorenzo's on Hudson is on a month to month lease basis.

Apparently, the main focus is on the De Lorenzo's in Robbinsville instead of the older joint.

I'm certainly going to try and make it up there on my next trip to NYC, but just something to keep in mind if you're interested in the place. And if anyone knows that isn't true,

    please post here.

  6. Enjoyed Hong Kong Palace. The Dan Dan noodles were amazing, very simple, but flavorful. Eggplant with spicy garlic sauce was just the right amount of sweetness and softness. The cucumber salad loaded with cilantro and garlic was delicious. And as recommended the cumin fish hit the spot which was very similar to Indian style. Finally, the vegetable dumplings were so-so, the same as store bought or other places.

All-in-all, really enjoyed the meal. The place was packed on a Saturday night. The waitstaff was very helpful and friendly.

  7. Yes, and unfortunately, I found out Pupatella is closed on Mondays also.

This left me with Pie-Tanza, and you know what? While it's not as good as Pupatella or Orso (sorry, it just isn't), it really is a pretty good pizza. "Pie-tanza was our Orso before there was Orso," my young dining companion said, quite accurately. Gold, Silver, Bronze ... the order is clear in North Arlington, but on Monday nights, Pie-Tanza gets the Gold.

    Cheers,

    Rocks.

Well, we ended up at the Italian Store, sitting outside, pizza bianca with mushrooms with cans of soda.

Not bad for a pre-labor day summer night actually.

Cheers back at you! Have a fun time tomorrow night at Orso!

  8. It won't be long, rumor is after labor day, we will be open Monday nights..

A buddy of mine says let's get some Orso tonight. It never crossed my mind, they are not open on Monday nights until I'm half way over to the place and he calls from out front saying, they are not open.

I guess this is what I get for not making it tomorrow night!

  9. Todai has quite a selection of food and sushi, but the price is no bargain (almost $20 at lunch and $30 dinner).

That depends on how much you can eat! :(

Seriously, you pay for quality and with seafood that's an important consideration to make especially with raw fish. Still, I'm not a big fan of AYECE seafood places even at places like Phillip's or Hogate's because you feel like you have to get your money's worth. Well, to be honest, I guess hitting those buffets for all you can eat shrimp or crab legs is ok...

perhaps there is a thread or should be one, on the merits of buffet dining.
