  1. For the last seven years I changed to Soy oil for all my cooking since peanut and other allergies mushroomed. Now I have seen increasingly a lot of SOY allergies.

Ashley- You have attended the DR.com dinners previously at Passage and could you kindly jog my memory as to, what did we serve you. We can definitely do something for your dinner though it might not be all the same dishes.

Synaesthesia- We are using the fresh Blue crabs, Dungeness comes frozen and the fresh ones are very expensive. Crab Tikki (cakes) app. is with pasteurized Jumbo lump.

TheMatt-Your allergies can be more easily solved, in the samesauces would you like us to cook some kind of fish, chicken or lamb.

I just wanted to say how impressed I am with how accommodating, flexible and responsive you are, Chef. This will be the third DR dinner of yours I've attended. You are such an asset to this community. Thank you!

I cannot wait for this event!

  2. Last night, MBK and I attended an Ethiopian cooking class at this new restaurant just a few doors down from Etete (1924 9th St, NW). They have only been open for 3 months. It was a fun night organized through the International Club of DC. All of the restaurant employees were as lovely as you could imagine - very friendly and hospitable.

More importantly, however, the food was wonderful. After the cooking demonstration they served us full platters of a variety of vegetarian dishes and a couple of meat dishes. Everything was delicious. Etete had been my favorite since I tried it a over 2 years ago, but I think that next time I am going to give Little Ethiopia a try. My favorite dish was the beets and I hope they have that on their vegetarian platter.

The decor is very traditional. The woman who hosted the event (the owner?) explained that everything in the restaurant was straight from Ethiopia and that they wanted people to feel like they had gone to Ethiopia without buying a plane ticket.

I urge you to give this place a try. I don't know how they'd do with a large group, but perhaps a $20 Tuesday is in order.

  3. A great meal last night. Thanks, all!

Cumin lamb is always one of my top picks and it didn't disappoint last night. I plan to follow Eric's suggestion to try the cumin fish next time. My new favorites from last night are the Garlic Fried Flounder (which is almost as good as my favorite Salt and Pepper Shrimp) and the Spicy Sichuan Ribs. I really enjoyed the steamed cod more than I expected to, and the tea-smoked duck was also a nice surprise.

  4. The Metro discussion was about Meaza, the proposed Ethiopian $20 Tuesday, not tonight's Four Sisters dinner, which is indeed on Strawberry Lane in Merrifield. It's in the Merrifield Town Center, off Gallows between Rte 50 and Lee Hwy.

Tonight's dinner is a long walk (about a mile) from Dunn Loring, if anyone is trying to go that route...

    Oh... Whew. :P

  5. Unless I'm thinking of the wrong place, isn't this place in Bailey's Crossroad (5440 Columbia Pike Arl)? If so, there's bus stop right by the restaurant at Columbia Pike & S Greenbrier Street (WMATA says the Arlington 41 stops there, as does the 16G or the 16D), but definitely not easily accessible.

According to their website, they are located on Strawberry Lane, in Fairfax (Merrifield). Can anyone confirm this?
