The Hoi Poloi are eligible to vote for three categories of the RAMMYS: Neighborhood Gathering Spot of the Year, Power Spot of the Year, and Hottest Bar Scene.
Some of our favorite places are in the running so go VOTE
Oh, and you can also write-in your choice for Favorite Restaurant

Has Sietsema never reviewed Mendocino? I was surprised that no review came up on the Post website.
Sietsma, for some inexplicable reason, has chosen not to comment favorably about Mendocino. Hope that will change and that he also will have nice things to say when Sonoma opens.

I have it on reasonable authority that Sonoma's management is giving consideration to having a pre-event for the distinguished members of this board who care to participate. No firm commitment yet, but...

Thank you!!!
I am transmitting it via a secret Russian channel
Kidding! Ve have Internet in Moscow. Stuffing self on pirozhki and caviar and mucho happy.
So does this mean you won't make HH this evening?
-
Also, I've heard there's a wagyu burger at Landmark Restaurant in the Melrose that is to die for. Sonoma will also apparently be featuring a wagyu burger, significantly closer to home...
K
They feature the Wagyu burger at Mendocino on brioche -- quite tasty even without the bun. I agree that it is truly difficult to judge "THE BEST" burger. Do have strong opinions on "THE WORST"

Looks like a multi-stop HH night. CB, Palena, ??? What time you plan on getting there?
Well if our trajectory connects CB and Palena, won't we also have to pay a call to Firefly?
-
I will obtain the appropriate clearances before attempting any such conversation. Sheesh, bureaucracy is everywhere in this town.
And tell the High Commish to sign-up on this board -- or has he???
-
Half price wine by the glass until 7, and $5 highballs until closing.
Good. I can drink twice as much

I'm in for the Circle Bistro on Friday. Any Happy Hour deals there?
-
In principle -- depending on the timing, I am interested

Don't buy 'em, find 'em. I found over 150 huge blond morels on Saturday. Almost filled a grocery sack.
Yeah, but what state were you in
-
Yes it is going to be called Sonoma, and despite the apparent lack of progress noted above, it is progressing and will open (hopefully) in about 3-4 weeks. they have the paperwork, but just need to finish the refurbishing. Stay tuned to this space...

OK it's Morel season, people. Should be appearing at Farmers Markets, Whole Foods and other prime locations. Whose spotted any and what was their price? Anyone gone hunting for some ?-- at least one member of this Board has -- er M. Gastreaux?

Had a mini-HH last Friday with Shogun at Mendocino Grille. Although I desparately wanted to have the rack of lamb, Chef Drew kept bringing out some killer apps -- scamorza filled raviolli with ramps, risotto flecked with bits of speck and topped with jumbo gulf shrimp, and my wife had the tempura soft shell crabs. Got filled up and never got to an entree. The speck/risotto was most excellent - very unusual flavor. (Speck, a smoked Prosciutto from Trentino-Alto Adige in northeastern Italy.) We stayed til the place shut down. Can't wait for the new project to open on the Hill.

Tunks was on the line when my wife and I dined there a few weeks ago on a Friday night.

Ah, just curious. Still works for me!
OK -- Don't know if we'll have a quorum, but I'll be there -- God Willing (Hear me oh Lord!) around 5:30 which is when I think the doors re-open
-
Alright, what's the plan. Mendocino? Do they have a HH deal?
No actual HH deals unless Drew wants to slip us some "samples".

I know its early in the morning, but after the week I have had so far I am already thinking about Happy Hour!
We have a new board, old friends, and a bunch of new faces so lets get something together tonight. Where should we go? Maybe someone new should select the place...
I am plannig to hit Mendocino after work, because I too deserve it after the week I've had
-
Hell, I was thinking dr.com road trip!
Now there's some ambition - the first DR.COM European tour sometime...

I have plans on the 15th, so I move for the 22nd. This park is so close to my house that y'all should be able to roll me home should I have too much fun.
So if it rains, or someone needs a toilet your place is available? 30 or so of your closest friends in to par=tay

Clam status: Should we clam up? Should we be happy as a clam? Frankly my dear scallop, I dont' give a clam....

In addition to being Mother's Day May 8 is also my B'day -- what a great little gift I was for Ma
I'm in for any date that achieves consensus, although the wkend of May 21/22 is G'town's graduation so things may be a little freaky in that 'hood. Maybe won't affect things too badly in the Montrose Park sector of the Village though.

Was pleased to participate in the first (?) HH resulting from this particular thread on this particular board. Our inimitable hostess H@D, Nadya, graciously accomodated, Mr. Dente, Mr. Gastreaux, Hannah and myself at the Bistro Bis Bar (henceforth -- BBB) for an evening of stinky and other fine cheeses, small apps, and good wine -- although Mr. Dente at one point in the proceedings reverted to some form of reputedly Belgian Beer -- and gazing at the important politicos swirling about the place. Mr. Gastreaux made a point of making sure we knew what high company we were in.

Hopefully about 6 or 6:30. Will there be a spot at the bar? Looks like it'll just be me-- everyone else wants to go to the remote parts of the city like Dupont Circle and Georgetown.
I hate to see a man drink alone -- I'll try to make it too. I guess since I'm coming from a "remote part of the city" I should get off at Union Station?
