  1. Back home (in Northern California) we'd head out to the forest and wander around in the areas that had burned the previous summer in forest fires.  The re must have been millions of morels.  We would fill 50 gallons sacks full in about an hour, and would just end up giving away hundreds of the tasty buggers.  I never knew they were a 'delicacy' until I came east!  I thought they were "peasant" food!

CAREFUL PEOPLE! This is not an incitement to commit arson in one of our State Parks.

  2. The Hoi Poloi are eligible to vote for three categories of the RAMMYS: Neighborhood Gathering Spot of the Year, Power Spot of the Year, and Hottest Bar Scene.

Some of our favorite places are in the running so go VOTE

Oh, and you can also write-in your choice for Favorite Restaurant

  3. Also, I've heard there's a wagyu burger at Landmark Restaurant in the Melrose that is to die for. Sonoma will also apparently be featuring a wagyu burger, significantly closer to home...

    K

They feature the Wagyu burger at Mendocino on brioche -- quite tasty even without the bun. I agree that it is truly difficult to judge "THE BEST" burger. Do have strong opinions on "THE WORST"

  4. Had a mini-HH last Friday with Shogun at Mendocino Grille. Although I desparately wanted to have the rack of lamb, Chef Drew kept bringing out some killer apps -- scamorza filled raviolli with ramps, risotto flecked with bits of speck and topped with jumbo gulf shrimp, and my wife had the tempura soft shell crabs. Got filled up and never got to an entree. The speck/risotto was most excellent - very unusual flavor. (Speck, a smoked Prosciutto from Trentino-Alto Adige in northeastern Italy.) We stayed til the place shut down. Can't wait for the new project to open on the Hill.

  5. I know its early in the morning, but after the week I have had so far I am already thinking about Happy Hour!

We have a new board, old friends, and a bunch of new faces so lets get something together tonight.  Where should we go?  Maybe someone new should select the place...

I am plannig to hit Mendocino after work, because I too deserve it after the week I've had

  6. In addition to being Mother's Day May 8 is also my B'day -- what a great little gift I was for Ma

I'm in for any date that achieves consensus, although the wkend of May 21/22 is G'town's graduation so things may be a little freaky in that 'hood. Maybe won't affect things too badly in the Montrose Park sector of the Village though.

  7. Was pleased to participate in the first (?) HH resulting from this particular thread on this particular board. Our inimitable hostess H@D, Nadya, graciously accomodated, Mr. Dente, Mr. Gastreaux, Hannah and myself at the Bistro Bis Bar (henceforth -- BBB) for an evening of stinky and other fine cheeses, small apps, and good wine -- although Mr. Dente at one point in the proceedings reverted to some form of reputedly Belgian Beer -- and gazing at the important politicos swirling about the place. Mr. Gastreaux made a point of making sure we knew what high company we were in.

  8. Hopefully about 6 or 6:30. Will there be a spot at the bar? Looks like it'll just be me-- everyone else wants to go to the remote parts of the city like Dupont Circle and Georgetown.

I hate to see a man drink alone -- I'll try to make it too. I guess since I'm coming from a "remote part of the city" I should get off at Union Station?
