  1. Don,

This is special to Shaw. I do not have the required equipment or the seating arrangement in College Park. Menu will be very different from the regular dining room menu. Also, I have not been to Roberto`s 8 so no comments on that.

Tweaked, for now the entire menu is seafood oriented but eventually when the weather gets a little colder I plan on adding a red meat course. I make all my stocks and sauces and all of them are fish based (or vegetarian). There is no chicken here (except for the family meal).

There are raw/barely cooked courses which I hope will not be an issue. I wish I could accommodate other restrictions but I serve only 4 seats so other issues can not be taken care of.

Here is a link to a picture

  2. Don, I hope you will take a beer and call it even, instead of $5  :)

I also like to put up what we offer as beer&wine here in Shaw:  (sorry I could not do a better job with copy pasting, if any moderator can, feel free to adjust)

  5. Donnie Simpson Jr. (my next door neighbor and friend in Shaw) just opened up his shop.

He is using Ceremony coffee and all muffins are made in the house. I love the chocolate/cheesecake muffin. I`ve been 4 times so far and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They also have sandwiches and wraps.

There can not be a better location, you literally see the store when you come out of the metro escalator.

    Congrats Donnie!!

  7. Organized by the College Park Community Foundation, we are having a beer and wine tasting here at Fishnet. It`s been great to be part of this neighborhood. They have such a great support for local businesses.

Here are the details and the link: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/581558

    A Taste of Spring

The Board of Directors of the College Park Community Foundation invites you to "A Taste of Spring," a fundraising event featuring a unique array of beer, wine, and fine food selected by celebrated local chef Ferhat Yalcin.

    A Taste of Spring
    Sunday, April 6, 2014
    4:00-7:00pm

    Fishnet @ 5010 Berwyn Road
    College Park, Maryland

Sample from a spectrum of wines, beers, cider and the chef's special menu of appetizers. Connect with friends and neighbors while supporting charitable projects in the College Park community.

The event will also feature a prize raffle and a survey of guests to award the distinction of Best Wine and Best Beer of the evening.

A Taste of Spring is brought to you by the College Park Community Foundation, Fishnet, and the Berwyn District Civic Association.

We are also celebrating the successful 2013 change to Maryland law that allowed Fishnet to obtain its license to serve beer and wine, boosting economic development in the historic Berwyn neighborhood. The 21st District delegation to the Maryland General Assembly - Senator Jim Rosapepe and Delegates Barbara Frush, Joseline Peí±a-Melnyk, and Ben Barnes - sponsored this new law.

Business sponsorships are also available. For more information, please contact Richard Morrison at rmorrison@collegeparkfoundation.org.

Please note that 50% of the ticket price is tax-deductible.

  8. It is Californian and one of the best I`ve had along with Valderrama. My wife caught me while I was literally drinking this olive oil from the bottle. Single bottle did not last me 3 weeks. Frantoio Grove makes single olive, extra virgin oils. Very good balance of fruit, acidity and a smooth peppery finish. You should find at Union Market.

  9. Hi All,

Since we have beer now, it would be good to let you know what the list looks like. Beers on tap and wine will be available in few weeks. Also, our Shaw location should be open towards the end of this month. That is if I can get all the permits on time. Have a good weekend.

  10. I agree, that beef is just average. While I appreciate the feeding/breeding and all natural other things, the taste is just not there. And I do not see the grade of their beef. I see it is dry aged. and saying `premium` is just a marketing tool and IMO falsifying, giving the impression that `premium` is a grade.

  11. @darkstar,

Main supplier will be Ceremony. I really like their operation, they are local, attention to the detail is very high and they care, plus I like their coffee very much. I am also interested in to try other small roasters. We have a frequent customer here at Fishnet and he`s been roasting his own coffee for a long time. I tried the coffee and find it unique. I am also curious about your ideas.

We will do pour overs and possibly french press for single origins and for people who are not interested in tap coffee. There will be Turkish tea and coffee, as well.

  12. Hello,

Some great things happening here and I wanted to share my excitement with all of you:

    - It looks like we will have a beer&wine license by the end of December, in College Park. City of College Park and Berwyn Civic Association are both supporting this matter for a long time (I do appreciate to those people) and the final hearing is at the end of November. Multiple meetings showed that County attorney and the liquor board are in favor of us. (we were not eligible to get this license when we opened because of the county law. a distance to a school reduced from 1000ft to 400ft and we now qualify)

    - We will test the delivery system for a short while starting next week. Tuesday-Saturday 5pm to 9.30pm we will deliver in a 2.5 mile radius with no delivery fee. We only require a minimum amount of $12. I hope it goes well.

    - DC location should be ready late December. That is when I look at things optimistic. Construction is moving like a snail because of blah blah blah and blah.

    - Planned coffee shop next door to Fishnet passed the first step of the program provided by the City of College Park. There are two more steps we need to qualify and we should begin the construction. Again, optimistic side of me says in January 2014 but who knows what kinds of blahs I will encounter.

@darkstar, you will see me less and less here in CP but more and more in DC.

  13. If you can make it to the picnic (I know you're pretty busy w/ your restaurant), I can bring an assortment of knives for you to try (& everyone else, of course, I love sharing my knives w/ people) -Takeda, Watanabe, Tanaka, Moritaka , all purchased awhile ago-honestly, most of my knife needs can be met by the Hiromotos (probably my favorite commercial Japanese brand) & Spydercos (because I like serrated knives, but Spyderco has discontinued their kitchen knives). I guess I should also bring some stuff to cut up, & cook...

Thank you very much, that is a great offer. I would love to learn from your expertise with the knives. However I will be in Turkey until late October.

  14. There's a tiny but interesting selection now at DC Sharp in Union Market, but only a handful of yanagis and a few more debas/pettys, and only a few makers represented...Tojiro and Kikuichi showing on their web shop.

A day trip to Korin's showroom in NYC (whose walls ARE full of knives) is probably the way to go if you want to see a broad selection.

I`ve been to DC Sharp, You are right they have a unique selection but very limited. I had a trip planned to NYC few weeks ago. Only to have dinner at a restaurant and to go to Korin but I had to cancel it. Now I have no time until November. It looks like I will wait few more months.

Don, it is a great idea to get advise from Kaz or Koji. I hope they will let me try their knives :)  I will be in touch with you.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
