  1. I have to admit that I am a little disturbed that the first meal is featuring a winery, Korbel, that is the American leader in degrading the word Champagne. The name of their company is Korbel Champagne Cellars. Since they are not in France and mush of their product (all?) is farking transfer process, how the fark are they a Champagne Cellar?!?

Just another example of the lies told daily by some in corporate America. Of course I guess I am getting too worked up over this. I mean there is no corporation in the US whose lies would, like, cause major damage to our economy or our health or something like that. Sorry for the outbreak of conspiracy fever! :P

Should be Schramsberg all the way

  2. I think it is related to a small chain of mexican/salvadoran food joints. Mango Grill, is practically right next to it and pretty good. Never tried Irene's yet. Please report back if you hit it.

Delicious. Inexpensive like you would expect, it's related to the multi-location Irene's Pupuseria. The stars on the menu are the baliadas and the pupusas. I've never seen baliadas anywhere else, but it's a huge puffy tortilla, grilled a bit on the outside. I go for baliadas con todo which have beef, beans, eggs, avocado, and maybe some other mysteries.

The pupusas are well-done but similar to every other pupusa I have ever had.

Oh and I almost forgot the lengua taco. I am a big fan of tongue and see it very rarely here. The stewed lengua there is great-cooked just enough so that it's not horribly chewy but the unique taste of tongue still shines through. Not for everyone, but I am happy they serve it.

  3. I used to love this place for dumplings, but after today, taking it off the list. The dumplings today came to the table, thick, doughy, and COLD! I mean, no heat at all. Given the questionable hygine of the place (which I used to overlook for good, cheap dumplings) and the fact that the dumplings are now no better than City Lights of China (which is closer to home and less dirty), I think I am done here.

Dumplings there are okay but have yet to have any soup in them. I didn't even know they were supposed to be soup dumplings.

The pork belly with preserved mustard green though? That's just a fantastic dish.

  4. People need to begin thinking about Peter Smith, and the many independent restaurateurs of character that prevent this town from turning into a giant shopping mall.

People need to think about Peter Smith because if they don't, then one day there won't be any Peter Smith left to think about.

And that free bread basket with the three types of homemade bread will be gone.

    Cheers,

    Rocks.

I was very happy to read this. I don't understand the lack of love for PS7's. I have been wowed each time I have eaten there. I have met the chef briefly on a couple of those occasions and he's a great guy, happy to chat about the food, the place, or anything else. DC foodies must support this place.
